So last saturday I requested of VM to port my prepaid Vodacom number to their network.. I already have a VM sim I tell them... "No problem" they say.. "your application has been submitted and will take between three and four working days to complete."

Along comes thursday.. the fourth day.. still no MNP ... I decide to wait till friday...
friday afternoon.. still no MNP... so I contact VM customer care and ask whats the hold up?

"Ah yes" the rep tells me, "your port application was succesfully completed on thursday" .. according to his computer perhaps - for real: no... I tell him so... "Here's what I need you to do, turn of your phone remove the simcard and wait for at least one minute, then reinsert your sim and turn your phone back on"..

So I try that.. still no MNP ... but my Vodacom number now goes offline... dialing my Vodacom number instantly plays a recorded voice saying one simple word: "empty" and then disconnects...

Now I contact VM again and tell them of the new development... "yes" they say, "your number has been ported, but is not showing up on the system yet" .. ah and how long will it take to show up I ask? They cannot say for sure..

This morning .. still no MNP .. Vodacom number still offline ..

Sooo... sorry for the long winded story :D ... just wanting to know if anyone else is experiencing any similar problems with MNP..
I did contact VM again this morning... they have "escalated the problem" I am told...

It's a new system and there is bound to be problems... They told me it can be done in one day (* -> VM) but for now 3/4 work days as it is a new process.

Vodacom told me it would take me 1 hour to port (* -> Voda) if I go directly to a Vodashop or something.

All of this done free of charge…

I myself will stay away from this till next month when the problems (if there was any in the first place) should be sorted out.

Similar thing has happened to me - I've got my Virgin sim card with temporary number which is working, I requested that the port takes place on monday - but come friday afternoon it seems my cell c number/sim isn't working.

It's not a big deal for me as I don't rely on my phone too much and I still have the temp. number ... but I hope everything goes through on monday as the operator told me it would ...

Hi

Was it a prepaid port ot a contract port?

A friend ported his MTN prepiad to VM prepaid. It was done within 2 days and he got a followup call from VM to find out it everything was OK.

The only problem is that he does not get Call Line Identity.

I'm just wondering what MNP could possibly involve that would take so long to process? Isn't it just a simple matter of one service provider removing a number from their database and blocking service to it and then the other network adding it to theirs, just as they would any new number when a new SIM is activated?

I think the problem is just that the process is still being worked out and despite what they say isn't really set up properly.

Virgin has been advertising MNP for a good couple of weeks already and I was under the mistaken impression that everything was good to go come D-Day. Unfortunately Branson has ended up with egg on his face and this is definitely not a good impression for first time Virgin customers.

Vodacom prepaid to VM prepaid ...

My sister also applied for a Vodacom to VM port and hers went through with no problems in a few days... funny thing is I applied before her...

Post a complaint on hellopeter.com, worked for me when I was having problems with VM. They even told me that complaints from there get priority.

I can't believe these clowns..
As of wednesday afternoon, not only has my Vodacom simcard been down, but my Virgin simcard also went down.. the phone just says: "Unregistered Sim" .. after complaining a second time on hellopeter.com, I get the response that "the problem has been resolved"
What are they smoking??

I have been put totally off Virgin Mobile after this affair..

Anyone know Richard Bransons personal email? I'd like to tell him how some idiots are totally wrecking his company.

lol,
I've just put in a port from Cellc to VM for my brother. Guess who will be blamed if this port does not go smooth...None other that Telkom themselves!! Some Telkom line(s) went down this afternoon and no Edcon/VM outlet could put the request through. “It will be done later today or tomorrow.” Even Dis-Chem & Pick ‘n Pay could not do any card transactions cause the “Telkom line is down”.

When I found out about *porting* from VM &VC they assured me I would have to pay nothing for the porting. Low and behold..I arrive at VM today. Now I hear that I need to buy an Access Pack to port. Oh well, I kind of expected that anyhow. Makes sense.

I do hope that this port will go smooth. If not…Thanx Telkom :P

Portco is Having problems

Hi guys and dolls.

Just to let you guys know I ported my Vodacom number to VM last week Sunday. I was informed the port will only go through on Monday night. However the port only went through on Tuesday night successfully. However CLI was not available so I sent an e-mail to VM customer services. Now everythings perfect. PORTCO IS HAVING PROBLEMS but all of this will be sorted soon as the Engineers have already been paid for the job. So Don't get pressure post your problems on this forum and also send e-mails to the Customer Services Depts. They will not be aware of a problem unless it is reported. I am told that alot of Vodacom customers are porting to VM. Thats great news. Keep the pressure up guys. We must reduce Vodacom's Subscriber numbers. Since this is a new system the local engineers have to have teething problems.

Cheers

I don't have a problem with a few small "teething problems" ...
But my number has now been inaccessable for a week!!
This is not funny!!
Apart from two posts on hellopeter.com, I phoned the "sort me out" centre 5 times already!!
The last time was this evening...

This had better get sorted out.. or I will be porting away from VM again as soon as possible..

A few hours ago (just after 7pm) my brother's phone showed 'UnregisteredSim'. It was weird because AFAIK porting happens here after 23:00 sometime. Anyhow... he got out the VM SIM, set up the internet and all. But the internet did not want to connect. I checked the balance: "R1.48” ok,so where is that R50 airtime? But wait a min now, that’s what he had when he ported. He had R1.48 on his CellC sim..strange. The *101# menu does not even look as the VM menu. It’s kinda still the same as the CellC menu.

Called 123…’problem’ got escalated. Lets see…
