    Unhappy MNP Woes..

So last saturday I requested of VM to port my prepaid Vodacom number to their network.. I already have a VM sim I tell them... "No problem" they say.. "your application has been submitted and will take between three and four working days to complete."

Along comes thursday.. the fourth day.. still no MNP ... I decide to wait till friday...
friday afternoon.. still no MNP... so I contact VM customer care and ask whats the hold up?

"Ah yes" the rep tells me, "your port application was succesfully completed on thursday" .. according to his computer perhaps - for real: no... I tell him so... "Here's what I need you to do, turn of your phone remove the simcard and wait for at least one minute, then reinsert your sim and turn your phone back on"..

So I try that.. still no MNP ... but my Vodacom number now goes offline... dialing my Vodacom number instantly plays a recorded voice saying one simple word: "empty" and then disconnects...

Now I contact VM again and tell them of the new development... "yes" they say, "your number has been ported, but is not showing up on the system yet" .. ah and how long will it take to show up I ask? They cannot say for sure..

This morning .. still no MNP .. Vodacom number still offline ..

Sooo... sorry for the long winded story ... just wanting to know if anyone else is experiencing any similar problems with MNP..
I did contact VM again this morning... they have "escalated the problem" I am told...

It's a new system and there is bound to be problems... They told me it can be done in one day (* -> VM) but for now 3/4 work days as it is a new process.

Vodacom told me it would take me 1 hour to port (* -> Voda) if I go directly to a Vodashop or something.

All of this done free of charge…

I myself will stay away from this till next month when the problems (if there was any in the first place) should be sorted out.

Similar thing has happened to me - I've got my Virgin sim card with temporary number which is working, I requested that the port takes place on monday - but come friday afternoon it seems my cell c number/sim isn't working.

It's not a big deal for me as I don't rely on my phone too much and I still have the temp. number ... but I hope everything goes through on monday as the operator told me it would ...

    Hi

Was it a prepaid port ot a contract port?

A friend ported his MTN prepiad to VM prepaid. It was done within 2 days and he got a followup call from VM to find out it everything was OK.

The only problem is that he does not get Call Line Identity.

Maybe too many people are porting to VM and that's the reason for the delays?

I'm just wondering what MNP could possibly involve that would take so long to process? Isn't it just a simple matter of one service provider removing a number from their database and blocking service to it and then the other network adding it to theirs, just as they would any new number when a new SIM is activated?

I think the problem is just that the process is still being worked out and despite what they say isn't really set up properly.

Virgin has been advertising MNP for a good couple of weeks already and I was under the mistaken impression that everything was good to go come D-Day. Unfortunately Branson has ended up with egg on his face and this is definitely not a good impression for first time Virgin customers.

Maybe some service centres are more competant than others.

I hope it all works out.

Post a complaint on hellopeter.com, worked for me when I was having problems with VM. They even told me that complaints from there get priority.
