Hi

Is there a free SIP server in SA like iptel.org's where I can register a user account for free? I want to register multiple accounts to use VOIP from multiple locations using ATA's

Thanks

Yes, i wanna know that too. Maybe we should build a myadsl.co.za sip server? With all the expertise combined in this forum we can build a Kick-@$$ server!

Why waste your time with that?

It would be easier to setup a DUNDi registration server where everyone can peer to. You wouldn't need much bandwidth for the lookups, and being a distributed system, maintenance would be a lot less..

The only issue would be to get everyone to play nice and advertise their number ranges.

An alternative would be assign a number block to registers.

I was thinking a SA skype gateway, The main reason to get one would be to allow use of local bandwidth cap options and skype locally?

I'm willing to sponsor a server. No problem at all.

Anyone interested shoot me a PM.

We can set this up easily, website and everything ... free! Either call routing through the server or dundi .... depends on the interest .. I'm not going to admin the beast myself so I'm after anyone capable of asterisk admin to give me a shout ;)

Sounds like a brilliant idea. I would like to get some hands on experience with setting up such a beast. Only prob is i live in klerksdorp :( . Maybe we should post this in the Off topic forum as there are more people to give there opinion.

Who's internet connection will we use for the calls? Mine? (i only have 3gb cap on a home dsl 384?). But i still like the idea of our own server.

I briefly checked their website, didnt see anything about a sip server. Any more info on this?

I'll go buy a server & organize enough bandwidth for it to start off with :) ... I'd just like some more interest before i go splash out ;)

I didn't see anything about a sip server either. ... let alone one that is free for public use.

They don't advertise it as it's a service running for companies like VOIPsmart (www.voipsmart.co.za).

If you like I can get you an account.

Have a asterix box standing next to me that can do with some testing. have 512kb line enough for a few calls.

mail me if you like to do something fishbornagain @ gmail.com
