Hey guy's.

So I finally took the bait and went and bought WOW. Please excuse my noobness here, but what i need to know is this;

1. If I got the EU version, can i setup my account on www.worldofwarcraft.com, or do i have to do it on www.wow-europe.com ?

2. Are there any good links to find out which servers / realms are best for SA players?

Guy's again, please excuse my ignorance here, this is all very new to me and need to get my head around all this.

Hope you can help.

Thanks

Well answer to question number 1 is wow-europe.com

and Question 2, I don't really know, try searching google for South African Guilds, but really, to me it doesn't make a difference, belonging to a guild is only really 5% of the game, and used to make finding groups to do quests and dungeons easier. But now, there is a new search tool for finding groups which does make it a lot easier.

Hi there

I also just started WoW I tested all the servers and Shattered Hand had the best latency to S.A out of all of them so I started there.

I don't know what the ppl are like but the latency makes the game so good.
If its your first time to WoW here is my advice.

Play an easy class like Pally or Warrior or hunter.
Get an unshaped ADSL account or you won't enjoy the game.
Complete as many quests that you can, instead of killing monsters for EXP.

Any other questions let us know.

hi as im playing wow aswell i would like to give 1 tip.

dont play a night elf hunter. :)

to many of them on all servers.

The most played classes are in this Order

1 Rougue
2 Pally
3 Shaman
4 Warrior
5 Hunter
6 Warlock
7 Mage
8 Druid
9 Priest

So hunter is definitely not the most played class, And there are going to be tons more Shaman and Pallys flying around when TBC launches.

I second that! Freakin' backstabbing *bad word*! Good thing I have my earth tremor totem to make it slightly more difficult for them to sneak up on me! :D

I tried playing a rogue once, but I wasn't enough of a b@stard. :D

I strongly suggest you start on a new realm. This is especially true for PvP servers. The problem with starting a character on older established realms are :

1. PvP is a nightmare. Opponants on your level are likely to be twinked alts of bored lvl 60's with nothing better to spend their gold on. Even when u get to lvl 60 and pull into a battle ground, your opponents will have gear that makes you cry. You get killed easily by a class which shouldnt be able to kill you that easy. Its because they have gear which takes months of raiding/pvp to get.

2. Difficult to find half decent groups for lower level instances. Not impossible, but can be a problem.

3. The economy is not normal. You will find you cant sell gear that you get that you dont/cant use, so end up vendoring it. Earning less money in the process. This makes the production professions like tailoring, blacksmithing and leatherworking a bottomless pit into which money goes in and never comes out.

However, if you joining a group of friends these problems can be overcome.

My own personal opinion: Unless you know the players, create a character on a new server, rather than go where there are South Africans just for the reason that there are South Africans. I'm in a guild where my wife and I are the only South Africans. We joinedd the server when it was 3 weeks old. Every instance from mid lvl 40's(Zul'Farrak was my last non-guild run), has been a guild run. That is because 90% of the guild where in my level range. I am always raiding or doing the smaller instances with the guild. I basically lvl'd from late 40's to lvl 60 with the guild. When I was on a server in a South African guild, I was 6 months behind them. Darned difficult to catch up, cause they cant wait for you. No right to expect them to either.

But that is my story.

As far as class/race etc. You just have to find the one that suits you. If you roll Alliance, don't roll human, unless its a warrior and all you want to do is tank end-game(extra sword and mace skill is good here). Human racials are not that great for pvp. For pvp, any other race/class combo. For pvp, gnome or night elf. Maybe dwarf. My view anyway.

That new search tool sucks imo - the old LFG channel worked a whole let better.

Unfortunatly it was spammed to death. Players begged blizzard to get rid of it. Now....

BTW, most, if not all, realms have created their own LFG and Lookingforgroup channels.

I also have to add a question to the mix ;)

I am also now re-trying WoW. Tried it a few months ago and didnt really get into it. So much stuff to learn, and the available learning resources is so much and disorganised that I could not find an answer for 75% of my questions. I today picked up a copy of burning crusade, I hope my fellow saffers will answer a few of them.

1. What class should I create if I want a long term char? A Class that will always be able to find a group to do things with? I always enjoy playing rogues, but if the game is awash with them, it might not be the best choice in the long run

2. What professions should I choose? I need something to help me cash!!! Here I am looking for something for the short and long term.

Thanks in advance.

1. Choose a car which u enjoy or its a complete waste of time... then befriend some imba players and u will eventually get into one of the top guilds on the server

2. Hebalism = CASH GALORE... and so does skinning/mining

Hi what server are u on and what faction cause I am in a SA horde guild thats just started we are mostly level 40-50 and we need more people ?

server = darkspear
name = Horde Brotherhood

If u r interested visit hordebrotherhood.terapad.com and speak in the forum

:)

Choose a priest and specialize in healing cause there are a shortage of priests

Prists are actually allways needed in a group for awesome healing

Or be a druid or paladin they can take damage and heal

:)

Hope this helps dakeyras:

1. There is no class that isn't absolutely essential. WoW focuses on group play far more than solo play, although 1-60 and now 60-70 its not so apparent. However endgame which is where most of your game time will be spent (70) grouping is the way forward for both PvP and PvE. A good group/raid is one with classes that compliment each other and a 25 man raid will want a good balance of all classes. Every class has a role. However! If your looking for a class that will have an easy time finding "pugs" (groups formed on the fly instead of through guilds) then priest/druid is the best choice. But I recommend that you choose the class you enjoy playing the most, even if its the most overpopulated class, you will eventually find a guild and groups. If you don't, you'll end up just "rerolling" the class you wanted to in the first place.

2. Professions.... Well, professions aren't a requirement for success, heck I was 60 for months without having any. I started PvP'ing alot so I took engineering for grenades ( 3 sec stun ) and discombobulator rays and mining to supply it. For cash though, I'd still say mining and herbalism, collecting professions. Theres always people who'd rather just save some time and buy materials off the auction house than collect it themselves.
