SMSes sent to my Vodacom number are getting delayed....reaching my phone as much as FOUR HOURS later! This happens at night when I'm using the phone as a GPRS modem to surf the web. The smses sent from different providers. Does cellphone internet usage affect sms delivery?? You have no idea how frustrating it is to send someone an sms at at 21h00 pm only to see the reply in the morning when you get up, the reply having reached you phone at 02h00 am when you are sleeping!

It might happen with some phones that the data connection won't allow the phone to retrieve SMS's. Which phone is this?

We had this as one of the complaints of 'Vodacom intruding in people's privacy at night' when people receive SMS's at night. But what actually happens is the SMS is sent and then dits in the SMSC wating to be downloaded by the phone, but the phone is kept from downloading it. When the phone then gets the first change (after you stop your GPRS connection, in your case, it seems), the SMS is retrieved.

You can always test with a different type of phone with your SIM in it.
