I went to Vodaworld today to purchase a Nokia Car Handsfree Kit from the Nokia Service Centre. To my surprise, they have closed!

I also enquired about the branch at the Woodmead Value Mall, also closed!

There was however a lonely rep all by himself in Vodaworld with a small Nokia signpost. When I asked him what is going on, he told me that the company that owned the Nokia Service Centres (I thought it was Nokia...) sold up and closed all the branches. They do not know who will be continuing with Nokia servicing.

He also admitted that there are no servicing currently available for Nokia phones and accessories. Weird...

Guess one has to be careful buying a Nokia these days. I own three, and I am quite worried about service backup etc.

Does someone else know more about this?

Rudi

That company was related Exactmobile , father and son operation and the father left the son to run it since they were doing all of Nokia's work and the son stuffed it all up.

Last I heard from my Nokia contact , Nokia HQ is still looking for a decent company in ZA to do the warranty work for them , contract has fantastic value but people love to be greedy and rip off and overcharge and make absurb profits in record times.

So unfortunately one has to wait , and let me tell you their service was'nt fantastic even when the work was being done by them , was still a continental phuckup IMHO.

Having Exactmobile out of the loop is the best thing to happen to Nokia in SA. Any warranty service can easily be done by Vodacare anyway and the phones have a 2 yr warranty. - I think this is GREAT news.

Ixia are currently doing in and out of warranty servicing for Nokia's (and other brands like Motorola, SE). I had my N73 with them about 3 weeks ago. They are based in Midrand so if you are out of the area and you can't drop it off with them, then you are in for a loooong wait (I was quoted 6 weeks if I dropped it off at a Vodacare branch). Typically the turn around is 2 to 3 days if you do a walk-in, but usually its a lot quicker.

Isn't Ixia the SonyEriccson service centre?

Nope, they seem to do all the leading brands at this time, SE being just one. They have a database for Nokia's. My N73 was in warranty (as I am sure most if not all N73's are), however they looked it up the IMEI on a database and the printout showed that 20% of its warranty had expired. They ended up replacing the main board (which ment my IMEI also changed) and I was not charged for the repair. Took 2 days to get my phone back, so I was reasonably impressed with their service, however some other Nokia owners, judging by their posts, have been less than impressed with Ixia's service, so I guess its just a case of which techie works on your handset. I may just have been lucky.

Satguy did you check if the new IMEI is under warranty cause it says on the slip it is but try going back and find out cause a buddy of mine had his board replaced and when he had a problem later they told him his phone wasn,t under warranty cause they couldn't find the new IMEI on their system

Hi there. How does the nokia guarantee work via the phone's imei?does it mean that if i take my N73 to the nokia care centre without a slip?

Does it mean that if i take my N73 without a slip it will still be covered by guarantee?

neoassasin:- Ixia systems are fully computerised. The worksheet / jobcard that you get to keep shows the old IMEI and the new IMEI, not only that IXIA put a sticker on the main board (in the battery compartment) that indicated the warranty expiry date. I am sure there will not be any issues later, however I have kept the jobcard indicating the main board swop. The only thing that was a serious pain was that all the S60 apps that I purchased using the old IMEI number, had to be repurchased.

pcgig:- I took my N73 to IXIA with no paperwork. They typed in the IMEI number and it showed the handset was still in warranty. IXIA are clearly not doing this for fun, they have obviously been contracted by Nokia to do the warrany repairs and I am sure that Nokia have supplied them with the relevant info regarding when the handset was shipped. If your N73 is under a year old and it has not been liquid damaged / physically damaged or had unauthorized repairs done to it, then you stand an excellent chance of getting a warranty repair.
