Hi Guys, I have done something (semi) stupid.

I asked for advice about wireless routers ages ago, couldn't buy anything at the time, then forgot about it and when I did buy a router I didn't follow said advice. DOH!

I was told to get a Linksys for ultimate ease. I got a Belkin with MIMO (whatever that is).

Now I set it up and it connects to MyWireless and all seems well. But I now only get about 7.5KB/sec on my 256Kb line. Wierd huh?

I can plug the MyWireless modem directly into the PC and get my full 25KB/sec, but I need wireless connectivity. I am using Vista Ultimate.

Am I screwed because I got the wrong router or is there some simple (or even mind-bendingly complex but still cheap) solution to my problem?

Tell me all. I thirst for knowledge and better i-net speeds.

I think I just need the right MTU setting.

Does anyone know?

Thanks, but Sentech still runs at less than 50% speed when plugged into the router, but at full speed when directly connected to the PC. I have set the MTU to 1450 but no speed increase.

Anyone know how to make it work on the Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router?

Apparently it should be 1458. Don't think it is going to make a difference for you but just wanted to correct myself...

Problem solved - Belkin Router and Windows Update 80072ee2 error

I have been trying for weeks to solve the Windows Update 80072ee2 error (I am using Vista Home Premium - when checking for updates I always got this error, always when Windows Defender tried to check for updates).

I have tried every solution I could find on various sites (deleting Installed Programs folders, checking hosts file, exclusions in firewall settings you name it).

I have a Belkin ADSL 2+ Modem with Wireless G Plus MIMI Router and my ISP is Mweb.

After giving up on the various Windows help sites, I searched for anyone having problems with the Belkin Router and it appears reasonably common - the MTU setting is very "sensitive".

I changed my MTU setting from 1432 (which MWeb insisted was right) to 1492 and bingo - Windows Update and Windows Defender are working 100%. The router also seems to be connecting at a higher downstream data rate for what it's worth).

So - for anyone experiencing this particular Windows Update error - try changing your MTU to 1492 and see how you go (or perhaps check with other people using your ISP to see what works for them - don't necessarily take the advice of your ISP).
