I finally bought a Nokia LD-3W GPS receiver direct from a supplier (R990 inclusive of VAT). It works well and I will recommend it for anyone, especially with a Nokia phone - it takes the normal Nokia phone charger, comes with a car charger for the unit (which will also charge your phone), and has a standby time of 22 hours. It also uses the Sirf III chip.

I have used it successfully with TomTom and Smart2Go. Before I got the unit, I liked Smart2Go, but the "free" version of TomTom (see below) has full voice guidance and does not use your data connection. It is superb, as good as my satnav in my car.

I also managed to find a list of every available TomTom map (including South Africa). Check it out:

Found this for you - I have not tested it.

TomTom 6.030 build8320

Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/15367290/TT6.030build8320.rar

No maps in this download.

Extract the rar file to your computer, after extraction, you will see
"TT6.030build8320" folder, open it and copy all contents to the root of your memory card (use card reader). Insert Memory card to your PPC then soft reset (reboot).
If it does not auto install, browse for 2577 folder on your PPC and tap "ttn.cab" and follow instructions.
After installation, you then copy Maps of your choice to the root of your memory card. i have posted the link to the SA maps above

mohammed do you think it will work with the internal GPS of the N95? (seeing how you are the Nokia fundy)

From the initial report I have read, I do not think it works with the internal receiver, but I also heard that the may be a patch shortly.

Best is to download TomTom (without the maps it is not that big) and test it to see if it connects.

PS: Nokia N95 seems like a great phone and I want one too. After using my external GPS receiver, I have come to realise that you need a clear, unobstructed view to the sky - ideally your GPS receiver should be placed on the dashboard. I am sure it will work if placed in your shirt pocket, as I am sure that not many N95 owners will want to place their phone on the dashboard!!!

T3 mag says of the N95
"5 mp images arent as detailed as they might be, due to a degree of compression not normally seen outside of a car crusher"

i just went and bought the 3 year license for R750 ... the nav thats standard on the phone does its job pretty well imo ... ive never used another GPS solution other than the one that came with the car ... im happy with the nokia maps so far ... gets me to the places i need to be

when i try to download from rapidshare why the heck does it always tell me that i have reached my limit when i have never tried to download from their servers in the past month.

"You have reached the download-limit for free-users. Want to download more?

Probably because you are using a proxy (or your ISP is)

I thought the limit was imposed on the file that is uploaded. ie. A free member's files have a certain download limit - the message is not meant that you have reached YOUR limit, but that the file has reached it's limit for being downloaded. - I might be wrong though.

If you are using a mobile device to connect then rapidshare probably sees your IP as a shared one - and you will appear to be a heavy downloader.

The primary aim of rapidshare is to get you to pay.

That's why they offer a 'free' download (if you wait 10 seconds) that turns into a 'open an account' offer when it doesn't work.

Rapidshare is very frustrating. Free users have to enter a code and sometimes the codes are "wrong" even if entered correctly. When you get the code right, the server is too busy. Guess they want us to pay.

The file downloaded from the link by Hotentot UK is corrupt. It wont unzip.

1. The above is a link to an illegal warez copy of tomtom. against the rules guys.
2. TomTom does not work with the N95 internal GPS receiver. It will however work with an external Bluetooth GPS receiver paired to the N95
3. TomTom is teh r0x0r5, celebrity voices are really cool, nav is okay, interface is fantastic.
