Hi my Virgin sim is finally active...I intend to use it to surf the net, but what I need to confirm in here is if I have to convert the R50 airtime on the sim to Megabytes? I know with my MTN sim I have to covert airtime to Megabytes first, but im not sure with Virgin...Thanks in advance

Nope. u simply put the money on the phone, and u can start surfing (it deducts 50cent per meg automatically)

U only need to convert the money to Megs if u buy bundles

... no data bundles yes, BUT ALL YOUR MONEY EXPIRES in the same way as if you had bought a data bundle!

Skeptic,

You are mistaken, there is a 90day recahrge inactivity airtime window which is differfent from a data bundle offered by some of the SP's and Networks.

Can you elaborate? ... If you load up R50 and use 10MB of traffic (just hypothetically, bear with me) over 30 days, how much airtime do you have left on day 32?

Hi SecretCode,

Please allow me to supply you with accurate information.

If you are a prepay customer – which is the best way to demonstrate the answer:
R50 will buy you 100mb, if you 10mb over 30 days, and then do not use it for the next 2 days you must have 90mb left over or more accurately R45 in credit, assuming you have not made any calls or sent SMS/MMS etc.

If you use 10mb over 90 days and you attempt to use it on day 91 you will not have any credit leftover, unless you have recharged on or before day 90.
The original credit plus the new amount will be in credit and you will have a further 90 days to use this credit.

If not please send me your details and I can ensure that our support Team gets in touch with you.

Hope that clarifies the matter.

Regards,

Gerald.

So that's how it works. I was wondering why it didn't extend the window, when I charged two R50 after eachother. (It did extend on the first one).

Gyro250Hz: Consider switching off pictures. They eat bandwidth like crazy.

Here's a customer who found out the hard way:

INCIDENT
Being a big fan of the Virgin group, I was excited when Virgin Mobile made an appearance in SA. Although their starter packages were very pricey compared to our other Cell operators (R80+ at the time), I purchased a Virgin sim card. Before using the sim, I contacted Virgin Mobile customer care to find out whether I lose the balance on my sim if I dont use it for a few months. For some reason I received two email responses (from two different people), both confirming that I won't lose the R50 credit even if I don't use it for several months. I was pleased to hear this, so I activated my sim. I went overseas, I did not make any calls for a few months but upon my return, when I tried to make a call I was informed that I had no airtime. Therefore my R50 had been stolen from me. And in turn, Virgin Mobile had lied to me. If I had known this was the case, I would not have activated my sim when I did or I would have given it to someone else to use or I would have used up all my airtime before going overseas.

I'm incredibly upset about the blatant lie and I will make it policy to no longer support any of the Virgin companies again.

Hello nolies

Thank you for the comment. I did email you all my details with direct contact numbers. We are more than happy to Credit the R50.00 back to your Virgin Mobile account.
Airtime can only be 'lost' when you have not been active on the network for a period of 3 months and more.

I do apologize for the inconvenience cause and I am looking forward to your response on my email.

Regards
Francois

CUSTOMER'S FEEDBACK
Not impressed: Francois was helpful and promised R50 airtime 10 days ago. To date this problem is still unresolved. Have not received the R50 airtime and am still unable to use my Virgin sim.

Skeptic,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, however it does not change the status of the airtime window policy as we speak, and if the customer was misinformed it was due to a error, but not an attempt to lie to the customer, we'll sort this one.

Gerald.

Hi Sky.Akash,

Re: Recharge after 90 days and lost airtime.

mmm....right now; I am not certain but will have an asnwer for you today.

Regards,

Gerald.

Hi Sky.Akash,

Hope the info below is useful to you

*Prepay customer does not V Charge within a 90 day period they get soft locked and the available balance remains on the IN (intelligent network).

*Once a customer V charges again they receive the V Charge value PLUS the balance on the IN that was available when they where soft locked.

*The customer no longer loses their number at 120 days.

Regards,

Gerald.

It does clarify it, yes - and although I'd also be unhappy to make a wrong assumption this is a better arrangement than MTN's or Vodacom's.

Could I add more airtime at any point? (As with any prepaid cell contract, but unlike the curent MTN & Vc data bundle recharge policy.)

If I have R45 left on day 32 I could use it for 90MB of data or R45 of voice calls or R45 of SMSes or any combination? (Unlike the bundle approach where a purchased data bundle can't be converted back to airtime.)

Now, if only VM had 3G/HSDPA speeds...:)

Hi SecretCode,

You are quite correct.

Gerald.
