How much is MNet worth

How much would you pay per month for a MNet subscription?

Looking at this DSTV Select thing, I was wondering how much more would you be willing to pay to get MNet as well as the other channels. DSTV clearly bank their premium offering on MNet but is it worth an extra R200?
I assume that this is what the traditional MNet subscriber pays and therefore that is what DSTV think the channel is worth.

For me I think that R100 is the top of my range and a fair price is between R50 and R 60 a month.

DSTV Select + MNet for R200, now that is something I would sign up for.

I feel ripped off but there is a lot of MNet content I love watching. (CSI, 24, Prison Break, my wife likes Desperate Housewives, my Mother-in-law can't live without Egoli)
 
Now with the Rugby being ruled by Government. No use to buy Mnet or DSTV.

The Worldcup is on SABC2 and I have already cancelled my DSTV subscription. I'm taking a stand and hope all the other rugby loving people is SA will do the same.
 
I think R 100-00 is too much for MNet. If I get an option to cut my DSTV bill by R 100-00 and drop MNet I will definitely use this option. I think I am willing to pay around R 50-00 for it...just for the sake of having it.
 
I cancelled DSTV too - that is my stand.

Over priced, repeats ad nauseum (again I feel compelled to say "Myth Busters").

Since 1 June we have had ZERO channels, not even ETV, and I can say I have not missed it at all.

To answer the question, MNET may be worth around R50 if you feel you REALLY need it.
 
Select looks like it might be worth 25c to me. I could go another 10c for MNET.

I'll stick to watching series by other means. No advertising and I can watch them at a pace that suits me.

I won't pay for movie channels unless the movies are broadcast in their original aspect ratio.

In the block of flats where I stay we pay R100 a month to have Mnet. The only things I watch on it are rugby, carte blanche, and the odd movie that I haven't managed to acquire through other means... for me the value isn't worth more than R50 a month.
 
we dont have mnet...I dont miss it. Its a waste of money. In fact we dont watch TV.
 
I think that an uncapped Broadband service plus the full DSTV bouquet should cost R500 a month. That would be fair value to me. Not the R1000 a month that it is currently costing me.

EDIT: OK that is for 384 ADSL with a 3GB Telkom Internet service, so I want much more for much less.
 
I dont watch tv as a rule. The odd news report and that's about it.
if I really want to watch a movie or a series I go to the cinemas or just download the sucker

Yup.

I NEVER watched any series on MNET - the constant advertisements made me phyically ill (really. I got to the point I had to start watching my blood pressure when I saw the same ad for the 10th time at the usual obnoxious sound level).

Reason I was asking is that MNET is making a killing from DSTV/Multichoice
Why not just make MNET free ?
 
Let's be fair. Can you imagine the tax that MNET and DSTV are paying to the government and all these regulatory organizations? Cut that out and the price will most probably drop by 70%. Overseas programs cost a bundle, in DOLLARS/POUNDS! They might be making a bundle because they do not have competition, but it is expensive because of all the government add-ons. Look at the price of petrol. We all know that the price charged is 80% tax and government related fees. A computer game bought in the USA cost $10 = R +- 70.00. How is it possible that the same game cost R500 when it appears on the shop shelf.
 
Of the 50+ channels on dstv, Which do you actually watch?

For me its:
SS1+3 (soccer, rugby)
Discovery (when its not a re-run and it decent)
History (have to be bored to watch this)
Mnet (some series, Sunday movie)
MM (very seldom, far to many re-runs)

Sci-fi is gone long time, but we get reality tv. :confused: (mindless viewing)

Why can't there be a compact where you select your own channels?

Older games were generally more likely to be available heavily discounted overseas, but the last time I bought recent PC games they were actually cheaper here. The same was not true of console games, but it appears that there has been improvement there too.
