Guess that answers my question of yesterday.. Still I am curious how/what the eca is allowing. I mean if Vodacom can go over to fixed, can Telkom auto go over to mobile?I thought there was a difference in licence.
What we really need in SA is providers of new services, not new resellers of old services.

It looks as if they're reselling now because its the only option but ultimately they want to run their own ADSL network.
So its Telkom releasing new products under the name of VodacomNo ways will Telkom sell its 50% to Vodafone.
What I like about this, is that it would appear as if the private sector is trying to bypass legistation.
Maybe that is what's needed in this country.
I'm all for private companies saying "screw the goverment, let's do it ourselves"
Uys said that backhaul capacity is currently one of Vodacom’s biggest restraining factors
Given Voda's inability to provide good support for their 3g service, its madness to get DSL from them.
That's what everyone wants to do.
But they never get around to it...cough cough.,...goal.
Well Goal is a special case.Vodacom unfortunately can't do much until LLU is initiated though. I'm just wondering why MTN isn't making any moves like this?
Vodacom is already struggling to get the current de facto parastatal better known to us as Telkodemonopolies, to provide backhaul capacity & links for Vodacom's 2G & 3G networks, and parastatals the world over are known for general incompetence and wasting of tax payers' money, so I'm not surprised that Vodacom would rather take advantage of its right to build its own fibre backbone and take charge of its own destiny - instead of leaving its future in the hands of incompetent & narcoleptic gauvamint ministers and a telecoms regulator that has an idiot for a leader.Isn't this what Infraco is upposed to provide, backhaul capacity at cost? Do they not already have an intercity network taken over from Eskom or Transnet which they are expanding at the moment?
LLU, I have read somewhere that this could simply be leasing the line, again at cost, Telkom cost of course, but less greed (from Vodacom?) may just give us lower prices
What happened to the cost of services report Telkom had to deliver to ICASA?
IIRC, MTNNS already does ADSL - even before the official split from MTN.Well Goal is a special case.Vodacom unfortunately can't do much until LLU is initiated though. I'm just wondering why MTN isn't making any moves like this?
