Hi all,

Need to buy another PC for the house as wife and I fight for game time on my box. :p She has a fairly weak Celeron 2.0Ghz with 256Mb Ram and onboard Screen card. So I will upgrade her with mine and get me something upgraded. :D

I had:

2.8Ghz HT Prescott
1 Gig Ram
Geforce 6800 GS 512MB AGP
250 GB SATA and 160 GB SATA

So obviously I want to see a difference when buying the new box.

Some recommendations please?

Intel Dual-core 6600 CPU
Nvidia 8800GTS 320Mb
2x1Gb DDR2-800 RAM
Keep the HDD's
A reputable, branded PSU, of 500W or more.

You will see a remarkable improvement in your gaming, for R7,000 - R10,000.

Gigabyte p965 DS3
Intel Core 2 Duo E4400
Nvidia 8600GTS/8800GTS 320Mb
2 Gig's of DDR2 800+

350Watt for 8600GTS 500Watt for 8800GTS 320Mb

DDR2 800+ helps with OC'ing ;)
Gigabyte p956 DS3 has a host of extras!
Reason why I say E4400 is because its alot cheaper than a E6600 + a 4400 can OC like a dream! getting 3.0Ghz on air!

GA-N680SLI-DQ6 best intel gigabyte board by far but it cost R3400:(@ Rectron.
and i agree E6400 is a dam good processor to go for.

But like i said before give us a price range to work on:rolleyes:

Price kills it :(

I got a "Gigabyte p965 DS4" motherboard. Awesome...
You can also go for the MSI P54? MB

The P35 chipset is not much faster (yet)

Without a budget it's impossible to help you.

Also do you need a new mouse,keyboard,screen,speakers/headphones or will you be using the ones from the old system??

troll FTW

486
32 on board ram
16 bit sound card
and my brand spanking new ATI 8 bit 3DFX card

what you guys rekon ? R100 for the whole system?? :D

anyhoooo im sooo very bored!!

Things to consider:

E6400 replaced by the E6420 and soon to replaced by the E6550.

And with Intel's second price drop expected soon - the E6750 should be selling at the same price as the E6400. Note the E6750 is over 1GHz more powerful (unclocked)

This with a new asus or giga P35 mobo. Check if you want the future DDR3 ram opt though.

lol @ ddr3, you seen the actual prices for those babies ?

end of this month... quad core is going to be allot cheaper :)

C2d Ftw!

That's still expensive considering what the prices will be dropping to tomorrow 'worldwide' (Q6600 at $266 = FOB ±R1800)

See here

AH! the joys of living in S.A  over priced hardware!

IMO any intel Core 2 Duo is the best! from E2150 all the way up to a QX6850!

Im gonna sit back and wait till Q1 2008 to get my upgrade my then prices would have droped like stones :) Word of advice... If you wait for the best hardware you'll always be, behind or you will just wait for ever!

What Glordit said

Yeah that is a bit overpriced.. I see Take2 sells it cheaper !
