My arial has broken off at the gold connector of the modem, and now it no longer receives a signal, the signal light is amber.

I suspect because a piece of the arial is still stuck in the connector.

Now where can I take it for repairs, as iBurst tells me they don't do repairs, but I can swap it out for a fee. Wonderful, of around R1200:eek:. Thats almost a whole new modem.

The cellphone repair guys will have the correct type of tools and skills to probably attempt it. Will void you warrenty immediately though and they will charge you a labour fee and probably won't take responsibility if they totally trash it.

The likes of VodaCare or you could try one of numerous back alley repair places that are around.

Personally I think that iBurst should be able to supply you with contact details for an authorised (or at the very least - capable) repair shop.

In the past, iBurst swapped out modems with broken antenna connectors that were stuck inside - like yours now - even without so much as a peep, so don't let them push you over.

No, go to iBurst and demand a replacement of the antenna "pigtail" (or the antenna unit as a whole) at no charge, because if they gave you one with a flat grey "puller" grip attached to the connector, the chances of this happening would have been slim.

The most probable reason that the later batches of the Poynting-manufactured "pigtails" have a grip attached to the back of the connector is that there have been hundreds of victims like you who (presumably) received items from the earlier batches!

And then, with your new antenna in hand, visit Poynting's offices (or one of their resellers) and ask them to fit it for you. ;)

I’m sure you can remove that stuck pin with pliers or something and just get a new adapter fitted to the antenna.

The power adapter of one my UTD's went up in smoke (literally) and iBurst swapped it out free of charge...

EDIT: corrected red-faced; "proof of a late night" - correct red-faced

@WHT: Pliers? More like mini-tweezers! The antenna connector can be replaced but not even Poynting will sell you the connector separately, so you will have to source it elsewhere. And then you have to get it attached to that string bean cable - the labour charge for such a specialised service will probably cost more than the antenna kit itself, which is mass-produced.

@W.I.M: What's that word you put in brackets - proof of a late night? :D

You can always open it up and do a DIY job on it.
Don’t know if these things has warranties but if it does it will void it.
And it has to be done correctly or you will experience signal los

Yes this is a definate weakness of the pigtails - the 90 degree turn is a weak point and we have had a NUMBER of issues like that. Why they can't have a STRAIGHT connector I don't know. I have removed these pieces with a sharp metal spike but as mentioned be CAREFUL when you do that as you can damage the tiny metal pin in the middle. I would suggest you go to the iBurst offices to see if they are going to stand firm on the no swop out policy. It does seem somewhat unfair to have a defective product and not help customers who are in your position. We instruct all our customers to be very careful when plugging and unplugging these connectors. Use your finger nails to get right in behind the gold connection and pull it out straight.

I had the same problem.
My arial broke off as well.I got the old white modem.

I fixed using a cheapo method mine works 100% now.

I made a plan connecting the old arial in the exit arial "socket... using some wire with
the same diameter of the sockets hole..

(I had to do some small soldering as well )

Kinda hard to explain in text.

You can send me a PM and can try help you.

If they charge you R1200 to replace the modem, obviously there is no warranty

Go on, fix it yourself ... if you **** it up, buy a second hand one from the classifieds :)
