High court ruling welcomed

yeah baby. Roll em out vans, roll em out.

Even if only 3 of the vans roll out networks, its still doubling the number of fixed line folks in the market. Add to this that LLU is supposed to be done quite soon (not sure on that date, anyone remember the exact date?) and we in a situation where its starting to look like we might get some decent interwebs access before im too old to use it for anything other than looking for a retirement home

While I think you're a bit over enthusiastic about LLU suddenly accelerating from 0 to 100, allowing VANs to self-provision could potentially force LLU to take off, I hope it actually happens :).

atm.... I wish anything would take off!
 
hmmm...so are these guys also going to have to provide the rural roll-outs forced on to the current legal providers - Vodacom, MTN etc...?

Remember part of the current agreements are that a certain percentage of coverage needs to be provided to the "historical disadvantaged"...

How will a small company - like an ISP - fund this - obviously by adding a couple of cents to our bills...
 
What I meant to say was - so the same obligations that applies to all current self-providers will also apply to everyone else trying to self provide...??
 
ic, i meant quite soon in a south african manner, ie between 1-50 years lol. But still, you gotta admit that friday was a good day.

Wonder if mafole quite because of the ruling?

It was a good late afternoon for me when I got a chance to read the news :).

I too cannot help thinking that Stalin-Mafole threw her toys out her cot and resigned [from the ANC & its NEC] after hearing that the appeal she orchestrated was dismissed with costs - maybe there was a behind-the-scenes ultimatum from the new cabinet|president that she would suffer consequences if the appeal blew up in her face...

Dear Mr President Terror Lekota

Please don't screw up our country even more like your predecessor did, especially with telecoms. We are a 3rd world country but resorting to string and tin cans for communications is a bit beyond our current technological abilities.
