In the past two days I've had AIG make SPAM calls to my VC prepaid number - I asked if they selling something, and they respond with some cock n bull then admit that they're trying to sell something and I give them a mouth full for spamming me.

They knew my name, so they must have harvested it from some forms I've filled in recently - just cant think which one - ABSA bank, Makro lucky draw, ........ I just wish I knew where they'd got it from.

How would you deal with this kind of spam?

How come a search of Hellopeter.com for AIG and SPAM does not show all the spam complaints?

Frankie : If you demand that the reveal where they got your details from while the agent is on the phone, AFAIK they are legally required to tell you, and you can tell them to remove you from their list, which again AFAIK they legally have to do.

Except they usually hang up when you ask - so get their name first.

Secondly, they'll come up with some BS source.

Oh of course, except that they usually record all the calls, so if you get a bee in your bonnet you can cause ALOT of k@k for the call centre.

I'll certainly do that next time, after getting their name first, but when they respond to the hellopeter complaint I'll insist on their source and then takle then on it and the source.

I just hate these f'n spammers.

Yeh - nothing worse than someone who's just pissed me off hanging up on me too.

I generally phone back and get their manager, or via hellopeter a written apology from the person involved.

Well I got to the point long ago of not answering "Private Numbers"... which has alleviated much of the spam calls...

If they have a nubmer that comes through I keep it and phone it back and k@k on the ppl from a dizzy height and all that... usually never get a call from that number ever again.

Response on Hellopeter

They're most likely hoping that I'm not going to demand the source of the information.

I called the number on Hellopeter, and the lady has promised to post a follow-up there stating where the harvested my detail.
