ISDN to be phased out!

ISDN internet perhaps, but not the actual lines can be phased out as they are the only lines that can be used for number hunting in a switchboard.

I thought this would be resolved by now, but when our call center moved they still had to prick around with ISDN lines in the new office.
 
I remember how expensive ISDN used to be at one stage... is it still that expensive?
 
ISDN still has a fairly big grip on PABX systems. I don't know all the technical details if VOIP can offer the same features, but until then, it's still going to be around. I have to admit, the quality of a voice call over ISDN is better than over analogue phone.
 
At the end of the day you need to interface to Telkom via some format, unfortunatly Telkom do not offer SIP links as yet, which leaves only ISDN for PBX. So I doubt they will terminate ISDN lines anytime soon.

Telskelm dare not phase out ISDN before giving me alternative connectivity, or I will hate them even more...

Wait, do I even have enough space in my psyche to hate even more? Will have to wait and see.
 
pity... I still have several unused ISDN modems at home if anybody wants them. make me an offer.
 
We still use many ISDN lines for broadcasts, you cant beat the guaranteed time slots it provides (well on dial up anyway)

The cost may go up as less people use it but before they offer an alternative im afraid its stuck here

Perhaps this statement of yours only applies in the case of a large-scale switchboard or PBX, because AFAIK if you have only two or three lines that you want a "call hunting" facility enabled on, then you won't need to convert any of those lines into ISDN lines.

Is there a Telkom rep on this forum that cares to clarify this?
