Nokia Music coming to SA

Yay, finally an iTunes like store in SA. Hopefully this one works!

Well normally 1st to market rules, but we'll have to see.

Also out of interest I'd like to know how many Nokia music phones there are in SA compared to iPods, anyone know?

Nokia Music does not support FireFox. You gotta be shîtting me? So if you don't use Internet Exploder you don't get in.

I guess we'll just stick to the LimeWire music store then, eh?

Another attempt at a music store in South Africa which is going to fail, fail, fail - look at Musica, Pick 'n Play, DoMusic .. I'd say all failures! all music with DRM and in WMA format and not to mention the crappy 128k bitrate! C'mon.

The only online store in SA I can give credit to is Rhythm Records. No DRM, lots of SA music, in MP3 format. Prcing is good - R7. Learn from their example Nokia.

The Nokia Music Store most likely has many, many more tracks available for download. I'm shocked by the "selection" on most of these local download sites.
 
don't get too excited the uk store seems to indicate that it uses microsoft drm and downloads would thus not work on ipods...
 
More bollocks to "protect" the fat cat record companies in SA.

Artists need to start taking control of their own distribution and pricing. Radiohead had the right idea but made the window too short for their recent new album. I'd rather pay the artist directly than deal with the likes of "Nokia Music" or "iTunes".

call me old school, but I prefer to buy a cd then encode it to MP3...screw this online bull I like the fact that atleast I have a disk to show for my purchase
 
I would definitely use this service is Nokia could arrange for the ISP's to automatically zero rate the (local) traffic for these downloads on ADSL (even 3G) so we only pay for the content and not the megabytes :).
 
R2 per MB ... meaning R10 per song to just download ... plus I'm guessing another R10 for the song. Uh, might be a bit too expensive for my liking. But I'm holding thumbs that this is a good service :)

I was at the launch, and Nokia Music, the application (like iTunes) will only work on a Windows machine. It does not matter what browser you are using to access the website for downloading. The application is available to test on Nokia Beta Labs.
 
This is great news indeed. The nice thing is phones that have the "comes with music" label will get free music for two years. All you do is pay for the bandwidth.

Stuff Apple, they are too greedy else they would have done this long time ago. The time of the fruit is over, put your apple and blackberry on the compost heap and get a real multimedia device that does it all. N-series FTW!

Uhm, buddy, unlike all those other fake music stores this one actually works on the device - so you do not need a big old computer with a nasty old browser you just use your Nokia and download what ever your heart desires directly onto it. This is something you will never do on a fruit in SA.
 
My fruit can run Windoze better than any PC can. I live without the threat of viruses. I can do just about anything with my 2 year-old MacBook. Why can't some idiot company like Nokia write a cross-browser platform?

What a bunch of twats...

Firstly, unlike some dodgy fruit music player Nokia devices comes with internet connectivity built in, so you do not need to carry a laptop or computer around just to load songs onto it. Who cares if their application only works on windows, you don't need it anyway because the Nokia device can do the dowloading itself.

Secondly, your RaincoatBook might be viruse free but it is also application free and game free. Since it is based on unix, and operating system that [-]is secure[/-] runs very little software, you should expect Nokia not to worry about it.
