Hi guys,

Im trying to assertain the performance of neoflex users compared to prime users.

Is there anyone here who on Neoflex that has every experienced speeds of MORE than 240KB/s (this includes burst speed) and a latency of less than 100ms local?

According to the FAQ thread posted by Neotel - Neoflex users are supposed to get pings of approx 60ms? Ive never experienced this...

I have never had a speed of more than 240 - my ping is about 140ms.
 
Im on the neoflex 5gig and only once have ever managed to get 230kB/s burst and lowest ping i've ever achieved is 186ms.

Mine has been from one extreme to the other since I've got my Neoflex 5 months ago. Lately, it's been around 150-200kbps in an excellent reception area. On maybe three occasions, it broke the 1mbps barrier, but only briefly. Local latencies have always been beteen 80ms and 180ms.
 
Is this consistent speed are just max ever ? Oh wait, I said consistent, sorry my bad :)

I've hit peak of 3.1mbps ( whatever that is in kB/s ).
This weekend had a pretty solid always above 2mbps and usually at 2.5mbps. I get this quite often.

My latency has never been below 140ms as far as I can remember. Usually from 140 to 180ms but does go higher.

Where does it say 60ms ? I'd be able to play Xbox Live again in that case!
 
Okay I see. No chance on 60ms to local. International is like 300ms +

What latency (ping time) can I expect on NeoFlex Data?

Rev A (NeoFlex Data) has much lower ping times than Rel 0 (NeoConnect Prime), because the uplink and downlink are both fast, and this is one of the distinguishing characteristics of NeoFlex Data.

The ping time to South African destinations is typically around 60 ms. Most of the latency is obviously in the air interface, and this is not unusual for wireless systems.

Neotel’s network is connected globally through the Tata Communications Tier 1 network, which has a point of presence in Jo’burg. The connectivity is via the SAT-3/SAFE submarine optical fibre system (no satellite at all). As a result, the international ping times are typically 100 - 150 ms, the sum of the wireless access latency and international cable system latency.

Apparently international is 100-150ms - i dont get that on local! International to New York is 380-440ms for me.

@underfined: I meant max speed even burst speed. Im actually wondering if peoples neoflex devices have been provisioned for neotel prime of neoflex because none of us are getting near what neoflex can do it terms of latency or speed. Infact our max speeds are that of neotel prime... I understand that neoflex is 3.1mbps and that 3.1 is burst speed - but I have never had a burst speed anywhere near 3.1.

Wow. Honestly id prefer a lower latency though - it would make online gaming soooooo much better! I crave the days of Call of duty 5 online with sub 100ms pings!

It says avg latency is below 50ms for rev A!!!! What the ef.

Well technically it appears we should have both ? I used to host up to 8 players, some games 12 on Xbox Live with my little 4Mbit DSL connection.
 
Qualcomm make the chips found in our routers as far as I know.

You know I'm pretty sure if you went to the ASA, and proved that the actual performance on the network was not up to Rev.A standards they'd have to remove any mention of it as Rev.A, or punt the NeoFlex as superior to NeoConnect or whatever it's called.

That might get them to shape up.

What still makes me lmao, today iv seen a neotel advert in the office. Go online to check coverage. It seems that placing their tower on the hill did no good for the people living on that hill at all!

Sad sad...Stuck with a Telkom 512 line that goes no where at times
