Modern Warfare 2 works fine in SA!

I would just like to announce to all that you dont have to give up completely on MW2.

All South African have been match maked ingame with other South Africans and have all ended up in a server with low ping. IWNet isnt that bad after all.

When going "Find Server" ingame it automatically takes in to account your location and looks for a server of 100ms or less. This means that there is no lag (5 bars on game) when in the IWNet server.

Anyway if you were thinking of not buying the game just because of the dedicated server situation, think again, because it looks like all is not lost with Modern Warfare 2 in South Africa!
 
And are we getting these servers local? or will they be close enough to give that sort of ping?
 
Interesting question. It must be local, since there is no lag what so ever and the ping is less than 100ms.
 
Well if thats the case then i guess its not all gloom and doom then, but we will c how it plays out.
 
Explain to me HTF we will see 100ms or less pings on overseas servers?

The best you will get is 200/250 on an unshaped account, that does not sound like fun to me.
 
In response to IW.NET, when you are matched up with other South Africans....then yes it works nicely and you have 4bars of green awesome latency thus making life as sweet as a sugar coated willow-tree. However last night IW.NET was unable to find me any local games for around 45m. I was literally playing with 2 bars or less with weird speaking Italians and Polish who are deep in the Northern Hemisphere's Winter.

All I can say is the Matching system sucks and every South African is going to be swearing at the gods for this fallacy.

However the Private game is the way to go, and it shouldn't be too hard to round up a couple of people with the benefits of Steam's Community Networking.

Signal bar is only out of 3!!! - i've played online for about 3 hours alternating between:

IS low latency , saix unshaped and verizon unshaped.

the best i got was alternating between 1 and 2 bars and it is really laggy at times...

Killa is right.....impossible to have LAG sub 130ms to europe

So if IW did something locally , it hasn't shown yet!
 
i played and pings was under 100ms

almost no lag.

I have to agree with RacoonZa. Also played online last night, probably had 3 games out of 15 where i had full green latency. If we want to make it fun in SA then we should start using the Private Game option in MW2. Invite all South Africans and then start. The game uses mostly Peer-to-Peer networking so we should be able to play with good latency.

However playing against the others is fun too, even though you have high latency, still get to kill them.

Good game after all, but i would still like it if they can bring back Dedicated Servers, lets see what happens in the next 3 months.
 
next time you play and get these pings, try asking the other players or what ever, where they they are from in the world.

Nope i actually very rarely even see you online when i play, stoner69 or something and when i do see you it is generally shooting rockets from a chopper :D

After 2300 hours it tends to get a bit boring :D.
