Just had a user complaining to me that the Unisa website looks "funny".

Remoted in on his screen and he was on unisa.co.za instead of unisa.ac.za

Did a whois on the co.za version and it has just been registerd in October by a guy in Fish Hoek.

On the site he says it "might be for sale"

Can't deside if he is the stupid one with the new laws in place or if Unisa is the stupid ones for not registering it themselves.

Probably Unisa though.....
When can the answer to an monkey puzzle assignment be "4" if it is a true or false question with 1 and 2 as options?


Just makes me laugh again at all those job descriptions that require a degree.
If the Uni that issues that degree can't even do the basics then I ain't gonna trust their students with their degrees on my company's network....

Thats odd, it used to redirect to www.unisa.ac.za

Most Unisa degrees are still pretty good and well recognized but they are starting to slip, I would be worried if I was just starting a degree.

It did originally.

That's why I checked the whois. Seems somebody did not care to renew the co.za domain because "They are a Uni and Uni's use ac.za"

Now all those student who where used to unisa.co.za can get heir student numbers and passwords harvested if this guy wanted to.
How do you explain to Unisa that you did / did not submit that assignment online for which they now have 0%?

My wife is busy with her diploma with them. The exam monkey puzzle where IDENTICAL to the assignment monkey puzzle. :confused:

This ain't the first time either that they did it like that.

They lost some credibility with me since I've seen the type of bugger ups they do.

Some lecturers are lazy, I always try get as many past papers and assignments as possible because there is a good chance of the exact questions coming up.

Tell your wife to have a look at www.uni-sa.net and http://studynoteswiki.com/ they often have extra past papers.

Lol... your funny. You do know that unisa degrees are still on par because ANY university needs to submit its syllabus and exam papers to a governing body else their degrees would not be recognised by the world at large....

I on the other hand would not work for someone that does not know this, especially if he was running the company.......

Law, B.com and Maths department as well as the IT guys are still very much up to par.

The problem ain't the Syllabus

Its the Exams!!!

The study material can be the best in the world but if the exams are just a copy of the assignments then it is basically an open book exam.

And that is where they lose their credibility with me.

What is your wife studying?

I am doing stats + maths + operations research (Bsc) (Fin Moddeling) and I have not gotten ANY "redo-exam-assignments" in 17 modules. Also what year is she in?
 
She's into Health care
Year 1/2

Guess it depends on your line of study...

Back on topic:

I wonder what Unisa will do with the cyber squatter problem?

As I said, there's huge potential for password harvesting.....

Well im sure if he draws up a font that makes him suggest in any way that it is a webpage of unisa (the uni) he could be sued....

The difference between a diploma and a degree is HUGE. Also IIRC the medical side of the courses unisa "present" are "outsourced" to medunsa... Like some of their eng. courses are "outsourced" to the Tech.

That explains a couple of things.

You're starting to restore my faith in them.
Now only if they could present a IT Degree that does not require programming...
Some other Uni's have it but its not distance learning so I'm out of luck....

What do you want your IT degree to be into? Online business? More design type?

If you can tell me more or less what you are looking for I am sure that if I can not point you in the right direction someone else on here will :)
 
Basicaly the same as the current offering just minus the programming and replace it with maybe networking or something else


I suck at programming. Can read code enough to know what its about but just don't seem to get going on actual programming.
 
lol he might sell it back to UNISA and make a massive profit. I will. You get free traffic for people making mistakes. instead of the .ac.za so yes I would have done the same!

I have a friend who is studying networking and he did only light programming(1st year C++). I will find out and try and get back to you.

I would have done the same as well :D But I would have contacted them telling them I am making a porn site out of it.... Sure they would not want that and then offer me some good $$ :D
