Broadband reliability beats price and speed

Which aspect of a broadband service is the most important to you?

Price is most important to me... then comes the speed... (Oh please Telkom, would you just boost my 384kb line to a 1mb line, at the same cost) But what about cap, shouldn't that be on the list too?
 
Speed, then price. Ideally we should have all of the above, like the rest of the world does. I don't see why we can only have one.
 
This is however slowly starting to change with a few more affordable uncapped ADSL services entering the market. DigiChilli, Screamer Telecoms and SAOL have all launched uncapped services for under R500 per month, and online discussions indicated that there is a strong focus on quality of service and speed.

Let's not pretend any of these services are broadband. They're not.

When we see 4Mb or 8Mb uncapped below R500 (rental included) then, and only then, will we see price as a factor falling off the radar screen.

Agreed. Until broadband services are affordable in relation to the average income of a country price will remain the most important component when selecting a service. I think in the UK a broadband service will most like be around 1% - 2% of the average household income. Over here it is significantly higher.
 
The last few paragraphs of the article are encouraging. I have to hope all this competition will lead to even cheaper packages. Throw in all the undersea cables we have and are currently acquiring and it's just a matter of time until we see true uncapped broadband at a decent price

Unfortunately that's not really going to happen until the local loop issue is sorted out. Price is still going to be an issue for as long as ISPs have to use IPC.
 
whats the point of having speed and reliability when you cant afford it in the first place, ISPs need to drop there prices and get more customers, R1000 for 384 uncapped plus R500 for the line is disgusting!
Prepare yourselves for another year full of BS and Lies from your ISP and Telkom

You'll get some ISPs who will take the initiative and provide a good deal. Others will then have to compete on price.

I pay:
R499-00 for SAOL 384 Uncapped & Unshaped (includes the ADSL line rental) +
R333-00 for Telkom Closer 3 (includes analogue line rental + other extras) ... If you wanted to, you could reduce the Telkom portion to R131-00, for the bare analogue line rental.

This adds up to R832-00 (or R630-00 for the "bare" option).
Where do you get R1500-00???

I agree this is not true broadband ... but it's the best 384 uncapped internet deal going at the moment (no, DigiChilli & Screamer do NOT count ... there has to be a minimum level of service to count! :D)

999 for 384 fibre express uncapped , 570 odd for telkom fastest
 
It's still my opinion that until the major roleplayers stop profiteering off of an easy income market, prices will stay as they are or even increase. The problem of profiteering is endemic to this country because everyone wants to maximize profits while barely scraping zero on the level of "service". It has everything to do with money.

+1 (reminds me of the survey of same: broadband is >=3Mbps to some and >=10Mbps to others.)
