Some interesting things I have found with online gaming and bandwidth usage.

I played a Rise of Nations game via Direct IP with a mate of mine in the UK.
Played for about 2 hours, and the usage was 3mb. Thats nothing.

An hour game of UT2K4 to the saix servers however chomped a good 70mb.

the biggest bandwidth hogger thus far i have experience is BF2... man... that can chew bytes faster than Tyson winning an ear biting contest... :P

LOL! Good one!

Yeah take a few days off work and BF2 chews up a 3 gig cap in 8 days.

I got a trial account for Eve and had a go. Man what a cool game, but it used about 300mb for little over an hour of gameplay. Thats a day and a half and poof... what cap.
Frustrating as all hell.
Anyone gots stats for WOW usage?

What you talking about? Eve was designed to run on a 33.6kbps modem, at maxmium it will only consume 5mb in an hour, only more ehen u browse through website while in game..... max ive ever used on eve was 10mb in an hour.

300MB per hour?!?!? WOAH! awesome stuff that...

so your connection runs at about 85 kB/s?? hehehe, doesnt sound like a Telkom line...

i think you may have had a P2P app running while playing Eve... 300MB per hour is unmatched by any game i have heard... ouch...

Two things:

I played Eve Online for a year or what: 300MB / hour is unheard of.

It could have been 1) Downloading the newest game patches [possible, but then you won't see that type of usage again until a new patch.]

2) Trojan / Virus: I got infected by some type of trojan recently - The moment I switched to ADSL it started maxing my upload -> Check processes like
* internat
* resv/resz
* svchost32 [not to be confused by svchost]

Any of these 3 might indicate malicious software on your pc.

190 hours of playing = 750 megs

Wow Stats - Only been running for about a month on ADSL ...

Normal questing: 5-7 MB/ Hour.
PvP / Battlegrounds: 10-12 MB / Hour

I used play RoN religiously, until the advent of WoW, had quite a small active online community. Had ISDN at the time, I changed over to ADSL and kept on getting booted out of games. Well until I got unshapped :D .

Hmmm.... okay, something must have happened while I was playing Eve. Then it's not as bad as I thought. Thanks guys.

And eye_suc "300MB per hour?!?!? WOAH! awesome stuff that...

* It's an iBurst, which I can do sustained transfers at up to 120 kbytes/sec.

And Useless "i think you may have had a P2P app running while playing Eve... 300MB per hour is unmatched by any game i have heard... ouch..."
* It's an iBurst 3 Gig package. It's impossible to do any P2P.

All I can think of was that someone was also using it at the same time and violating it.
Wow also seems quite light on usage. Nice.

FPS games depend on your framerate ticks from server to client, if you run on 1000fps stable it could use up to 500mb a hour(not joking)

Most people play on 125fps which use around 30-60mb / hr

You can play Guild Wars and use teamspeak on a 28.8 dialup connection - how's that for network code?! It helps when you have programmers out there that know what they're doing!

Clipse, are you saying I can decrease how much bandwidth Battlefield 2 drinks by decreasing my frame rate? At the moment it seems to use more than 1MB per minute, so I cannot play any more, since I am nearly out for the month.
