How come arb countries can this facility, but we can not? I heard it had something to do with our banks telling Paypal that they are not interested. If this is the case, is it because its part of the shafting the banks love doing to us? What is the real story there?

because SA banks are seen as a fraud risk ?
I'm also not sure, I had an account shortly after the service started and used it quite a lot, but then neglected it and it was closed down.
Recently got hooked up in the UK, it required a permanent address and they sent post there with my activation code so I could get verified with my bank - took about a week to get it sorted, but I haven't used it yet. Hope to use it to get transfers from SA.
When funds go into your PayPal account, over here, it takes 5 days for the transfer to your verified bank account to go through, with a charge of course, but it's reasonable, compared with other methods.

Also registered to make payments and wanted to use it to register a piece of software costing $23 - the $19 additional charge put me off totally. Will probably never use it if you have to pay extra charges as opposed to using yr cr card directly which does not incur these additional charges.

i've been buying stuff on e-bay for a while now without problems through paypal. I don't pay any fee of that nature to them when doing any transaction.
Since it is now easy enough for South Aficans to pay using paypal accounts - how are local online shopping vendors collecting their bucks? since paypal are so disinterested in providing accounts for online merchants in SA...

Hmmm, one eye opener I've found in the UK is that the hardware is around the same price as in SA. It's only the USA and far east who get the radically good prices, because of sheer volume of sales.
Prices of hardware in SA really are not high at all, unless you compare them to the USA or far east.

I use www.thirt.com on ebay with success.You really have to get people to trust you,because of the many escrow scams floating on ebay.Paypal is not as good as people praise them for receiving funds on ebay.Scammers just complain and do a paypal chargeback and paypal's most of the times on the complainer/scammer's side,leaving you without your money and your goods.UK sellers now trying very hard to get their buyers within euro land to accept bank transfers.
