Cellular price relief may be at hand

Only reason for high mobile penetration rate is that it is next in the pricing ladder (nevermind the mobility factor). It's far cheaper than a Telkom phone and hence the reason why the vast majority of the population has moved to using cellphones exclusively. However, as pointed out by ICASA the average usage is only 1-2 minutes a day, of which most people are using the SMS service to communicate - really shocking. And these guys are patting themselves on the back for such high penetration rates...bleh....communications is a basic service.....what else are people suppose to do if they can't afford to use Telkom???

Peter7: It's not just about pricing. There is no Telkom coverage in many informal settlements, rural areas and townships but there is cell coverage. For many people they have little choice but to use cellphones for communication. And when RICA kicks in even that might be taken away.
