Pay-TV’s lesson for telecoms

Matsepe-Casaburri has shown a willingness, at the expense of consumers, to protect incumbent operators from competition. She should draw a lesson from Icasa’s moves to open up pay-TV.

It is much more likely that Ivy will find some way to prevent Icasa from opening up pay-TV.
 
Pay tv is different to telecoms. They don't have to have interconnect agreements between them. It's these agreements that don't allow telecoms prices to come down. Different with internet access as well. That's why we are seeing prices start to come down with that.

Because the government doesnt own DSTV, thats why.........stupid question to raise. :p
 
There will be something ICASA must protect us against. With satelite services decoders will need to be universal, because one doesnt want to sit with useless equiptment just because your chosen provider went bankrupt or have 4 different decoders for 4 providers, its enough that you will need 4 smartcards...
 
wth is “managed liberalisation” :p ha ha.

In their way of thinking it feels as though the two words are fighting furiously against one another with the managed part still holding the high ground :(

or have a decoder that take more than one smartcard, or have them all link to your one smart card providing they use the same encryption.
 
Yeah, Poisin Ivy, put down that doughnut and catch a wake up! Here's an idea, actually do some work for that ridiculous salary of yours! Either that or go on much overdue retirement and let some one more capable (and who doesn't have their hand in the cookie jar) do the job!
