New ‘ultra low-cost cellphones’ available from Vodacom next month

this is such good news. well done vodacom. this makes me proud to be your customer: kill that flippen meerkat and do more of this.

"The Vodafone V125 and Vodafone V225 represent everything consumers have come to expect - high quality and exceptional value for money. We believe that these low-cost cellphones will give our customers good quality, attractive cellphones, with popular features and functionality, at a reasonable price,” Joosub concluded.

So it can SMS and MMS and go online (EDGE at least)?

hmm. Throw away cellphones. not bad. They should sell them at airports to tourists.

Just what we need, more people owning cellphones. More rude cellphone calls in the elevator, more useless drivers who can't drive and talk at the same time, more "Please call me"'s from random numbers...

I assume you don't own a cellphone then... :o

what makes this vodacom cellphones anymore special than the low cost cellphones we already have?
The V125 will R378 (including SIM).
The lowcost cellphones i'm talking about includes:
Nokia 1100
Nokia 1110(i)
Nokia 1112
Motorola C118
Motorola C117
Motorola C113
Motorola C115
etc, etc, etc

All the above cellphones are never above R400 (including SIM) at Game, Dion, Glocell, etc

We don't need cheaper phones, we need cheaper calls. I wonder whether these cheap phones will be a success in South Africa. Maybe they will be perceived as "uncool" or something. lol

This is just more PR to make Vodacom look good... Cheap cellphones has been around for ages, and yes, some people also tend to judging you by the phone you use!.

They are just marketing gimmicks surely??

Yep, Basically.

But I have a c139 as a backup phone and use it when I don't want to take my expensive nokia but still need a phone. It only cost R250 with starter pack and even has a tft 65000 colour display, so what's different with Vodafone?

You pay for the name :D :D

Excellent news for the lower end of the market, nice to see Vodacom still thinking of ways to increase their market share. As for the phones, I'll stick with my i-mate for the foreseeable future :)
