Mikrotik setup for Client side

I have a Senao on my roof setup in AP mode with 2 Senao's connected to me. My Brother bought a RB133C from Uniterm.

We're completely lost as to how to do such a basic setup. Anyone with a link to a manual, or a step by step guide to getting it going?

done all the obvious, spent hours on this already!

The wiki there has a bunch of tuts, but non for a plain bridge type setup..
This may not be the right terminology I'm using the Senao can either run in Bridge or AP.
 
OK well have you at least connected to the AP you want?
Is the problem you having trying to bridge the connection ( between the poe in and the radio ) so you can use you pc?

Im not 100% sure what mode you using/or what modes you can but im using station wds. Then to bridge you go ( on left hand side ) bridge ---> add ( red cross ) ---> name: bridge1; mtu: 1500; arp:enable ----> STP ( check stp ----> apply ----> ok.

You will then notice that when you click interfaces a bridge connection now shows which means its working. Now click wireless ---> double click on radio. ( this is the part where me using wds might be different ) ----> wds ----> wds mode: dynamic; wds default bridge: bridge1 ---> apply ---> ok

Hope it works, if not try just do the bridge part ( woithout the wds settings ) and see if it works. Unfortunately im still learning so thats as much help as i can give


Edit: oh yah, also go to: IP ---> addresses ---> add ( red cross ) ---> enter the desired ip address with the subnet i.e 192.168.1.x/24; network: check ; broadcast: check and finally for interface select bridge1 ( or whatever name you gave to your bridge connection but in my case it was bridge1 )

The wireless radio is connected to my AP, security setup is done (that was straight forward enough)

Tried a couple of the bridge options, none workd, gonna give your suggestion a go - Thanks!

I'm not running WDS on my AP - although Senao does have it as an option, maybe it's worth a shot, it apparently halves your effective throughput though.
 
I would suggest using IRC and visiting the JAWUG server. Should get some "live" help there setting up mt to connect as a client. Details and a web client at http://www.jawug.za.net/

Yeah its not the greatest option at the moment but unfortunately me and the other guys on our mesh are still finding a way to move away from it.

but im still getting about 6-9mbps on a -82 signal so its not all that bad

has ctwug managed to penetrate noordhoek? cos afaik thats where sunningdale is or maybe im confusing it with a different one

Sunningdale is a suburb in the greater Blouberg area, neighbours to Table view and Parklands.

I have reset the Board, using Neighbourhood viewer and "/system reset".
My brother then connected using winbox.

Connected the Wireless to the Senao, created a bridge, adding the ether1 and wireless to the bridge, went to IP addresses and added 192.168.1.6 to the list.

Now, I can ping his machine, and he can ping my router, BUT he cannot get access to the internet... odd.

If the Routerboard runs in bridge - does it still need routing rules setup?

Ok, im not 100% sure about inet access and routing settings on the router.

try have your brother set his default gateway and dns settings ( on his pc ) to the ip of the adsl router. Thats all i do but like i said i dont know if there is routing on the otherside of my connection.

Glad to see the bridge worked :)

Make sure the modems ip is on the same ip range

All the basics are done. He has setup his DNS and Default Gateway to the address of my ClarkConnect Box.. It is weird, very weird!

Someone mentioned previously about routing - who knows. It's very frustrating, we've spent nearly a month on this with no joy!

I cant see why routing would be needed cos he doesnt need routing to connect to your pc so why for the modem.

How are you connected to the modem? Through a switch or directly?
 
I'm connected via a switch..

My Setup:
Switch === My PC
Switch === ClarkConnect === ADSL Router
Switch === Senao AP

My brothers side:
Switch === RB133C
Switch === His PC

My Dad:
Seano Client === His PC
