Hi all,

Bit of controversy this morning (nothing unusual for these forums).I purchased the VC 20 Gig promotional bundle yesterday.I first decided to test the network though with standard prepaid data and I got a stable speed of 2mb/s..this may not seem like anything great for some of you but for me its a big improvement on the speeds that I'm used to.Anyway , I was quite happy with this and decided to purchase the 20 Gig package.

When using the 20Gig package ,I noticed more erratic speeds and slower speeds too..max 1.2mb/s.Purely speculation here but I hope that VC isn't throttling the speeds on the 20 Gig package.Has anyone else tried it and noticed something similiar? Thanks.

Hi

I can confirm that there is no throttling on any of the data bundles. You probably still have a signal problem in the area.

Good for you that you actually got through to them.

First I bought R500 airtime from them, and I logged on to the Vodacom account and confirmed that the airtime had arrived. then when I went to convert that to the 20G special there was some new nonsense about a Master Account Holder. By the time I got that sorted out, I went back to my Vodacom account and my R500 had disappeared and my balance stood at 0!

I've sent them an email about that, let's hope they find where my money went. Now, ever the optimist, I bought more airtime and went to get that 20G special only to be told that "Unfortunately we are having technical issues on this page and are working to resolve these as soon as possible. Please try again later"

Considering the user-unfriendly website to start with, it seems that VC is really trying to scare its customers off! Just what more do I have to do to buy that special!

EDIT: Well, later has come and gone, and still no joy. I ditched my landline for this?

Edit: Amazing. VC has NO problem selling me data at the regular price on my phone account. But my data account now reads: No services available.

OK, credit where credit is due: VodacomData fixed it for me. Thanks, and beware; I have your profile bookmarked for future reference. :)

On the one hand, it is great that VC has someone scanning these forums regularly and helping out. It is appreciated.

On the other hand, it would be greater if the VC website just worked as advertised. But excuse me now: I have a wikipedia data dump to go download ...

I bought the 20gig bundle on Monday already and have had no speed issues apart from the usual that I get when I use any other data bundles. It is a pity this special will end early January though, but Im happy so far. Thanks Vodacom for giving us something.

I am having problems with my upload speeds - please help me VodacomData.

Have a look at how slow my upload speeds are here - makes Skype and FaceTime completely unusable.

I can provide details such as cell location info etc..

Same upload issues wether I'm connected to the 3G router or directly to my laptop.

1. Would changing MTU settings help?
2. Would using certain DNS servers help?

Thanks

i am also having massive problems with this service...
i assume i am being throttled, my download speeds start at 140kbps but after 5 mins drops to 3456bps..this isnt torrents or anything...just regular http downloads.

at this speed the service is almost unusable...the upload speed is so low that the speedtest.net test times out ! REALLY !

is there something i am doing incorrectly ?

please help !

ok i finally have a speedtest.net result....http://www.speedtest.net/result/1592974206.png

I been buying data bundle's from Vodacom for a quite some time, and the speeds where not once ever constant. From my personal experience, the best time to download is after midnight, and then again from 3.00am - 5.30am. It seems like that's when people wake up :) but yea, my downloads always finished.

On a side note, if you purchase the 20 gig package make sure your modem or the phone your using has 7.2 Mbps, and not the standard 3.6Mbps.

Ok need some help here. Never been a voda user.
I am getting a friends sim to use so how do i go about loading this data bundle?
Can i buy the bundle in any shop?
Or do i buy R500 airtime and convert it to the 20G data bundle?

For sure no throttling on our side, especially per protocol.
I take that to mean there is no difference between the 20GB data bundle and any other data bundle, apart from the size. If you are having throughput or coverage issues report them in the Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, Trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency thread.

14, 21 and 42Mbps HSPA+ modems have been around for a while already.

You can buy it at any Vodashop, just give them the number of the SIM card and they can load the bundle directly.
Or do i buy R500 airtime and convert it to the 20G data bundle?
You can do this too, although there were some complaints with buying it via the *111# USSD menu, so I'd recommend going to a Vodashop.

Thanks ginggs
@Sumio all major retail shops including cellular should stock them.
The E1820 is 21Mbps

Got it using *111# ;)
And the speeds not quite the same as what i had last night with normal data bundle.
But then again could just be me or the signal (which is the same) as before.

Only difference is the price, it's the normal 20GB bundle discounted to R499 from R3600.

Mine is working just great, I loaded it onto a new pre-paid sim card and bought the Advanced Data through Vtime Airtime.

My signal is not the best here in Joburg, but I got three bars and the speeds were pretty good.

Nothing to complain about.

Thanks Vodacom!
