Great news.

But in all fairness I am still going to be stuck on <2meg, and yet there is a brand new Telkom Exchange they installed in July less than a block away, that according to there "technician" is VDSL capable .... yet they cant use it as Eskom has missed several deadlines to connect it to power >.> , the last one being the beginning of August.

At the moment, they should focus more on getting areas onto VDSL, and Fiber Ready.

I would imagine this pricing would affect the 20meg ADSL lines price,
If so I will upgrade as I can attain 20meg sync speeds on ADSL.
Already tested it thanks to Charl :D

I don't see VDSL going to be less than R350 (20Meg) when resold.

Question is, are they going to drop the prices on ADSL?
Afrihost currently sells 10Mb for R399.

Sad thing is... I just ordered a new [adsl] router yesterday.

Do these wholesale savings normally directly translate to the customer?

Old:
20mbps from Afrihost is R539
40mbps from Afrihost is R789

New:
20mbps - R420.42
40mbps - R497.07

Cause if so then that's going to be amazing...Although I can't see how people wouldn't all just go to 40mbps? :|

Of course not.
1) A lot of people are on uncapped and
2) Not everyone can get VDSL at their homes.

I'm talking more about the capped people who have the option of 20mbps or 40mbps :)

The in bundle pricing is generally close to cost for the end user. That's how ISP's are able to offer bundle discounts.

Yeah, if i could get 40Mbps i would change to a large capped account.

oh well, a guy can dream. :crying:

Pretty much what I did :) Went from 4mbps business uncapped to 20mbps + 300gig cap (which I never really hit so it's pretty much uncapped :))

So if the 40mbps price drops to below the current 20mbps price then I'll definitely be upgrading to that :D

RPM it would be interesting to get an update on Telkom's MSAN roll-out. Would like to know what percentage of end-users country wide are able to access VDSL services??

Any DSL speed above 4mbps in SA is a myth. Not even Telkom support staff know about it.

With who did you take out the 300gb capped and what did it cost you?
I'm thinking of taking out a vdsl line since my area is compatible but my line only syncs up to 27MBs on my adsl router so I'm assuming this means that even with a vdsl router I won't be able to 40meg speeds?

Pink unicorn prices have been reduced.

I don't even know where or how you can trial or opt in or how much it is, what the caps are etc.

Afrihost. I think in total I'm paying about R1000 a month for cap + line rental?

How are you getting it to sync at that? I thought Telkom only starting letting their ADSL2+ start syncing at 20mbps?

What are you on about? >.<

This is about reducing the price of line rental. Nothing to do about data?

The maximum speed on ADSL2+ is 24Mbps. So not being able to sync above that doesn't really say much about VDSL. Of course, if your modem is syncing at something better than ADSL2+/G992.5 then it will change things.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.992.5

The data rates can be as high as 24 Mbit/s downstream and up to 1.4 Mbit/s upstream depending on the distance from the DSLAM to the customer's premises.

I'm guessing the pink unicorn is the fact that 20/40mb is a dream for most people, I've been stuck on 4mb and waiting for 10mb since 2009!
