3G/HSPA/LTE Routers

Good afternoon all,

I was offered a Netgear MBRN3000, the upgrade of the MBR624GU according to the salesman. Does anyone know if this model would work with Cell C?

Yip, MBRN3000 is the upgrade of the MBR624GU.
Been using one with my E1820 for about 2 weeks now - working pretty good so far :)

I just received the TP-LINK MR3420 and I havent tested it yet.Reading your post I hope i havent made a ballsup in buying this thing.Will report as soon as I test.

The link did not work at that time. Its working again. I have ordered that from bid or buy in the mean while. i am going to collect it on Monday as they are closed today.

The iBurst modem is neither a 3G or 3.75G Modem. Bit of a tall order to expect the router to work with the iBurst modem.

having the same issue at the moment, worked awesome for a week and stopped yesterday and nothing I do will give an internet connection, also tearing my hair out at the moment :(

edit: ok back working after a router reset

Just to report that the Dlink DIR451 does support the Huwaei E1820 from Cell C. Working well.

Click Setup (manual) and select:

Interface type: WWAN
Type: PPP

Country: None
ISP: None
Modem: with the two selections above, the entire range of supported devices appears. Select the E1820.

In settings, I have:

Dial: *99#
Auto PAP+CHAP
APN: internet
Connect type: Always On

SAVE these settings. On reboot - click on the STATUS tab and if necessary click CONNECT - although the router should have connected automatically to Cell C (if you selected Always On).

I also have the Dovado UMR (from Neotel time) but giving the DIR451 a shake as I had some reception issues using the Dovado. Need to state that this may have been on the client side (Apple Ipad & Iphone 4) rather than the server side.

I have the exact D-Link DIR-451 3G Router and I purchased the Cell C modem this weekend (black Huawei E1820 Modem) with 60G. It works fine on my laptop, but it does not connect with the D-Link Router. Not getting any help from Cell C as they don't cater for this setup - it is supposed to be just 'PnP' according to them. I contatced the D-Link support team and obtained the latest firmware (version 1.21). I used the settings as you specified but it just doesn't want to connect.The D-Link support team can't help me either. How can I see what is going wrong?

Hi i have bought tp-link MR3420 just now. When i open the packet the installation doucment says it needs a pc with internet.
I am assuming that i need the pc only to set up the router. After setting up the router then i can disconnect and leave the router in a corner with the USB modem plugged in.
Is that right?
And i hope that it works as just as a wifi which i can connect with my phone.
Please advice?

It would be great if somebody can post the configuration in simple steps.

The thing just works. Just plug everything in and go through the quick setup facility. Wait about 2 minutes and bingo!!!
I have it working with two notebooks a desktop and my phone. And a buddy came over and connected to my router with his phone.
It's the best value for money router I have ever seen. I have the Cell C black 21mbps modem.
 
Is it really worth spending money on a router for the CellC USB stick? I just use the Connectify software (free app) to setup my PC as a WiFi hotspot. Got my iPhone, iPad and the wifeys PC connected without any issues.

The thing only costs R499.00. I just feel it is better leaving a router on 24/7 rather than a PC. But either way is cool.

huh, you can do that, without a router, so clever.
I have the router, it can be moody and I have to keep changing locations, but that could be due more to Cell C signal- my good spots keep varying, but when it hits cyan, flies until I stop working - it doesnt like to be left alone, that is when it struggles to reconnect.
 
Thanks Axis. Now I feel much better. I was worried after looking at the user manual as it does not talk about disconnecting from pc after set up.

Huh!! I'm bad like that...I never read the manuals. I hate the Chinese translations
