For tp-link MR3420: To increse stability and reliability with modem + USB cable
For the peoples who know what is the soldering iron.
Open box and solder 100.0mF x 6.3v low ESR to the USB power connector pins (1 & 4).
Great help with long USB cable.

I went today to Uniterm Direct in Bedfordview to buy the TL-MR3420.

If you mention to Richard or Paul that you are a myBB member they give you 15% discount.

I paid only R499 including VAT. (Cash)

I setup the router with a iBurst desktop modem via ethernet and the Cell C E1820 Speedstick via USB and it works fine.

I can only connect on Cell C on EDGE only, cause my suburb has not been covered/upgraded yet.

So far, happy with the router.

No, not at all. I first sent them an email asking if they had stock and gave them my name and said I'm from myBB in brackets.

A friend of mine recently purchased a TP-Link TL-MR3420. He emailed TP-Link tech support asking about support for USSD for checking bundle balances (*101#) and received a reply that they'd never had that request before, but would pass it on to their developers.

USSD only seems to be popular in South Africa, Russia and some other eastern European countries.

I suggest all of you with TP-Link routers, and those of you considering buying them, drop TP-Link an email letting them know how useful USSD is.
 
Hi Guys,
I am trying to set the tp-link MR3420 router with black cell c modem. I am having lot of problems.
The set up is comeplete with out any problems.
But the problem is the internet sharing.
If i connect to the router with http://192.168.11. It shows that the internet is being re connecting every minute.
For 10 deconds it shows identifying and then it shows E1820 and then it shows that it is connecting and after 10 seconds it shows connected.
Then after 10 seconds it shows that identifying again.
Does anybody else have the same problem?
Any suggestions please?

Edit: There is big difference in the signal strenth. When looking at the routers home page it shows that the singnal strenth is 35 where as when connected directly to pc it shows that 70%.

Good idea, how else can one keep track of data usage on cell c when using a router? /do they have a web portal to monitor it?
(probably could use logs on the router but that wouldn't help if you use the stick on the road without the router and at home with one)

Must check if the TP-Link routers have a data tracker - I'm using a Netgear MBRN3000 and it tracks your data usage - shows you how much is being used daily, weekly and finally monthly :)

I think i have found the problem. The problem is with the modem.
When i connect the modem to pc it works fine for 10 to 15 minutes and then it disconnets by it self. It is again detected and disconncted.
If i remove the modem and connect it after 10 minutes it works fine again. So i assume that the modem is over heating in 10 minutes and stops working.

I have bought the modem this morning. I hope they will replace the modem if i go there tomorrow morning. I went there this afternoon and they were closed already.
Did anybody use out of box warranty on cell c modem? How does it work?

Well in theory you should be selling to us for less than R499.
Why you ask?
Well you sell them on BOB for R499 inc VAT and there are BOB fees - so if there was really a 15% discount it would either be off the R499 or at least R499 less whatever you pay for BOB fees - about 5%?

Either way, I have one, and it does work ok, it sometimes just loses connection and you have to fiddle a bit, but otherwise for R499 it is a good buy.

The fees aren't 5% we're also offering 15% of the entire TP-Link range, only a handful of the TP-Link products are on Bid or Buy so I think the 15% discount is fair.

If you're having issues with your router, try upgrading the firmware, we're working closely with TP-Link to iron out any bugs and as they get found the firmware gets updated, if an update doesnt resolve your issues, drop us a mail and we'll get it sorted for you.

Get them to add support for USSD codes. ;)

It would be great if I could check my data balance while the modem is in the router.
 
TP-Link Router

I was one of the first people who got the TP Link router and I must say it is a bargain and a very well priced devvice with enough features for the average home user.

PS. USSD support would be much appreciated so that we could check our balances.
 
Can I connect CellC modem to Netgear WGT624v3?

Hi

I am looking at getting the 21MBps CellC modem but I only want to get it if I can set up a wireless network via a Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router.

Is this possible and if so, how would I do this? I currently have a iBurst desktop modem connected to it but I am unsure if I can do the same with the CellC modem. Would I plug the modem into the PC and then connect the router to the PC via the PC network port? I would appreciate it if someone could give me a step by step guide on doing this. I am running XP.

Apologies if this is a trivial question but I am a noob when it comes to networks. I tries searching through the forum but didn't understand much of what was said! But any help will be appreciated
 
My tp-link is on it's way... :) Just got the MR3220 because I'm probably not even going to use the wifi part of it. Just need it as a replacement to an adsl modem really.

Yats, your netgear WGT624 has an "internet" or WAN connection port. You would need to connect this to a 3g router which the 3g usb modem plugs into.

ie.
"speedstick" -> 3g router -> WGT624 -> PC

That's pretty much what I'm getting the tp-link MR3220 for. R399 on BoB.
Alternatively you can chuck/sell the WGT624 and just just the MR3220 or the faster one the MR3420.

Then its:
"speedstick" -> MR3220/MR3420 -> PC(s)
 
We've contacted TP-Link requesting that they get USSD support added to the TL-MR3420 and TL-MR3220, we'll keep you posted, if anyone knows what the USSD code is to check the 3G data balance it would be a great help if you could post it here so that we can send that to TP-Link. Would need the USSD code for each provider if they differ.

Cell C is: *101#.

ginggs probably has the rest of the providers codes onhand. Really what you need is an interface where you can type in any codes you like rather than a fixed set per provider. Go take a look at the USSD interface on MDMA.
