3G/HSPA/LTE Routers

OK a new router to add to the list!
Cisco (Linksys) E3000

PLEASE NOTE! This router does not support 3G cards natively. The USB port is only for file sharing, but if you load DD-WRT on it, it actually enables you to use a 3g modem. Cell C works perfectly! USSD is on the feature request list, SMS not possible.

I used BrainSlayer build "dd-wrt.v24-15940_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-e2k-e3k"

Theoretically, any router with a USB port, and DD-WRT support should be capable of this (although I think only the bigger and newer builds include 3g support). Please do proper research before loading DD-WRT though, as I can take no responsibility for anyone bricking their routers.
 
USSD support would be great!

Would be great if you guys could get TP-Link to build this into the firmware.

Here is an idea of what it looks like from the cell c software and from ginggs application (MDMA).

You would send a USSD command like *147# and get a response from the operator, as in the screen shots...

In the interests of keeping it simple, I'd like to suggest we stick to unmodified router solutions in the OP. While I agree DD-WRT and OpenWRT are generally easy to load and use, it's not what the manufacturer intended to be loaded on their device and comes with a degree of risk (as you have pointed out). Comments?

True, this will be to the more technical oriented chaps out there. It does have some degree of risk associated to it, but it is a very decent piece of hardware

I'll get our technicians to test this in the new year and if we're comfortable that its a stable enough platform will offer this as a high end pre loaded with DD-WRT unit.

ROUTER, connecting "work laptop", i.e. "part of a domain"

Hi,

I bought TP-LINK TL-MR3220 today, and it works fine with my personal computers. I have a problem connecting my work laptop though, likely because ity is part of a domain? Previously I used ADSL, and created a "mini port" on my work laptop to "dial up" via the adsl, but I cant seem to get that working when using this 3g router. I tried both lan and wireless. Any ideas?

Later:

I just noticed that I can indeed make a VPN connection to my work, and then use the internet on that connection. That is not ideal though, because I often use the computer for private purposes at home, and as far as I know this means that I use data on my cellc connection, and the same data is "used" on my works internet. There MUST be a work around.

Check that you are not using any proxy settings in the browser of your work laptop.
 
I like the use of the word HotSpot, without the inclusion of any HotSpot details.

A HotSpot traditionally has the capabilities of providing paid/controlled access to network services.

Perhaps the term Network Hub or Network station would have been more fitting.
It seems that Cell C is once again pushing terms to their blurry edges.

I see no problem with using "hotspot" dave. Its a wireless 3G router it offers internet access over wireless...
Some technical specs would be nice, it makes no mention of wireless b,g or n? Or modem compatibility? And why only 5 users?

The TP-link routers are cheaper...
 
Yep, this is a great response to an obvious demand. Please CellC rep, if you are reading this can you request that the marketing droids put a few more technical specs on that page?

Looks like a mickey mouse router. The TP Link is cheaper and probably a lot better.
 
Lets just get one and try it. Market demands make prices drop right? If this one is any good...well we need to see it,right? MYBB.. You guys are connected and have spun a lot of add time to Cell C-Give us a review on this one ;)
