It has neither 3G nor ADSL modem built-in. However RJ45 socket works in dual - WAN or LAN mode, so if you have ADSL modem it will perform routing for this interface as well (the same as for USB 3G modem). So you can have two Internet connections (not necessary simultaneously).
I like RJ45 feature, its very universal - for any occasion.

What I meant it, you can plug your 3G modem in, and it will connect and provide Internet access like that. No ADSL interface.

There are two possible WAN interfaces: USB and RJ45. So if you have ADSL modem - just plug-in - the same way as 3G modem (if you have compatible one).

The 3G modem goes into the USB port on the device, the same port you can use to charge a mobile device. And yes, you can configure the RJ45 for both LAN and WAN. So yes, we are talking about the same thing :D

Only thing is, these devices don't like to be permanently plugged in, mine's battery exploded.

Finally. :)
Exploded when charging mobile device?

It could be hardware fault, why you say it is design problem? Try another one and if it fails again it is getting obvious. :)

Any Huawei LTE routers around the 1k mark? Currently have the R205.

To be honest I'm not the right person to ask about the mobile routers

We're only using routers with Ethernet ports for our client installations.

Hi All,

I got the 100Gb for R100 from CellC, I initially used my iPad Air, and got full LTE signal, and 33mb/s download in my area. i then bought the 403NR LTE Mobile Hotspot from Takealot, and had to return as i never got LTE signal as i did with the iPad Air in the same location

any suggestions on a suitable LTE router around R1k?

Always confirm supported frequency range. For local networks you need FDD 1800MHz (Vodacom, MTN, Neotel), FDD 2100MHz (Cell C) and TDD 2300MHz.

There is a Telkom special for Huawei B593 R999 (just verify it support Cell C). You can find it in CNA/Edgars stores. It is the best LTE router you can get for that price. Search other posts for details.

Successor to B593, B315s is available in Cell C stores. Price R1899 is out of your target, but check messages in this section for limitations, maybe it suits you better.

According to the TPLink website the TL-MR3420 supports the Vodafone Huawei K4606 USB modem. When I plug it into my router the router reports Unidentified modem, please configure manually, so I need the bin file for this modem. There is no download from the website for the K4606 bin file. Does anybody have the bin file for the K4606 that they can send to me? I would really appreciate it.
I've logged a ticket with TPLink support but I'm guessing it will be a while before they reply.

On a side note, the supported / compatible modem list link for TL-MR3420 on the first page of this thread takes you to compatible Print Servers for the TL-LR3420. The correct link for supported modems is http://www.tp-link.co.za/support/3g-comp-list/?model=TL-MR3420

Has anyone had any experience or info about the AirPoynt 3G WiFi Router from Poynting ?

It is also available bundled with a directional or omni antenna and cable...

Hi I just got a DLink 3G mobile router, can't seem to get it to connect to Internet, shows signal on device and connection. Any ideas?
