2) PPPoE is not available in our routers, as you pointed out. We had however have support for iBurst USB modems directly a few years ago in the DOVADO UMR, but this product is no longer available. iBurst alike was not something we saw too much a future in, so we decided to shift all of our attention on 4G/LTE and 3G/UMTS.

We will with high likelihood add support for PPPoE, but I cannot provide a time-plan on that. Very few countries still use this, and even less use it for the purpose of mobile broadband. It is mostly used for fixed broadband.

Okay, then it looks like we're going to have to go with plan-B: feeding the Ethernet-only (it's a desktop modem) iBurst into as basic a router as I can and let that do the PPPoE, and then daisy-chain to the WAN port on the Dovado so it can see the expected DHCP. So, assuming I get the connection tracker to work as shown, is that a config I can expect to work?

As long as the DOVADO router receives an IP address from your other router, then everything should be fine. The Connection Tracker will poll the primary interface to see if it's alive. If it doesn't get a response, it'll toggle over to the secondary interface. It's up to you to decide whether its Ethernet WAN port or USB port is the primary interface.

Any one know which 3G modems work with the D-Link DSL 2750U ADSL router as supplied by Telkom, just got one of these yesterday. Going to set it up later to-day.
 
From manual and quick google, officially, only D-Link modem works, but I suspect D-Link modems are rebranded modems made by someone else ... , will try my K4605 in it
 
Put the K4605 into the D-Link and it is identified correctly, but gets stuck on "dailing" ...

No connection gets made ...
 
Can anyone help me i want to know if the Huawei E3331 will work on the TL-MR322 router?

Or what can i get that will work with the TP-Link router? OR even then whether you get a router where you can plug in the Sim card?

Try the MR3420, works fine with mines(E3131).
 
I need some help from the gurus.

I have been running an old mtn router that was compatible with the Netgear router I got from telkom for free a while back. Used the 8ta data special, but after it kept dropping, I switched to the big data special from CellC.

The wifi on the router seems pretty bad and I have a feeling a new router/modem combo could speed us up substantially.

What should I look at as a combination that supports 21 mbps speeds and LTE (for later compatability). It would be great if I could get a router that enables decent video streaming over wifi.

Would there be a big improvement on my current setup?

Should I just get the Huawei E5220 wifi hotspot?

At present LTE is not about speed, but putting more people on a tower.

So my first recommendation would be for a Huawei B683 although a 5331 would be as functional ...

I'm also eyeing the E3331 but struggling to find information on routers that support it.

Any benefits in rather going the 3G modem combined with a solid wireless router vs the ALL in ONE router/modem (mifi) route?

The third option is cheap Android phone with WiFi hotspot. Huawei Y220 R450 in Jet/etc... stores. It has 21Mbps HSPA+ modem.

I had a E3331 plugged into a HG587s Huawei modem and it worked for a while then started disconnecting periodically and now the modem refuses to work even when I plug it into my laptop, not sure if the modem just broke or some other gremlin got involved but that's where I am at so can't recommend it.

I'm thinking about getting a Huawei B683 modem, does anyone know if there's a better option or updated version of that particular modem. Also have people been using these without too much stress?
