My ideal scenario is to have an Apple Airport Express or Extreme. Since the mentioned devices do not have a 3G modem/dongle plug-in capability, another router is required. My question is, can one get away with a very cheap mobile 3G router, and only use that to link up to the Apple Airport bmo of wire, and not sacrifice "quality"?

If so - what cheap one could be recommended? I have searched and searched and am getting very tired and confused. What sometimes work for one, is somebody else's gash. Etc. :confused:

Bought the D Link 2750U today. Did the 3G setup. Quite simple in the end, but surely the quick setup guide could have indicated where to go for setup instructions when you do not have ADSL. Used a Cell C Huawei E1752 modem with an 8ta sim. All iPhones and iPads linked to network. All good so far. Will report issues.

Thanks for the replies. What I'm looking for is actually a router that I can just plug my 3G modem into, rather than a whole new 3G router, as I'll be taking the modem out when I go out. What options are there?

A friend have the Planet WNRT router with white Huwai (sp?) stick. I couldn't get the thing to connect on the Cell C network. What setting did you use? (APN settins etc). I get somethign about the PIN must be disabled (it looks like it is). But it also says 3G modem is unknown.. is that a problem?

I tried for 20min yesterday... had to leave the router disconnected. Can you run thru your steps or what is needed to get it working ? please!

The dongle you have probably doesn't support the 900mhz frequency which is what cellc uses (except a few areas it also has 2100mhz). So in essence you need a new dongle that supports the 900mhz frequency if this is the problem

Please be more specific about which modem you have.

I told him about reading that he different older modems work. So he plugged his old cellc 3g stick in and voila works 100%. So you are right... Thanks!

Hi guys,

If you don't mind flashing your router "MDMA like" features are available via your router (or ROOTer).

Most support is for cheap and cheerful usb TPLINK routers but also some Netgear usb models.

Your ROOTer will also support LTE at speeds greater than 25Mbps.

I came across an ad for a STYLUS WHIZZY All-in one router for R399. i tried Googling it to check reviews but except for the ad, i don't see even an image of it! any advice? It's being offered by the Edcon group (Edgars & CNA)

The K4510Z does not play nicely with 3G routers. I tried it in an Asus RT-N66u, Intellinet 3G 300n and a TP-Link MR3420. No joy. I have not heard of anyone who got the K4510Z to work in any 3G router not even after hours of fiddling with TP-Link's sniffer tool. If someone got it to work, please let us know. I would say get another USB modem that is supported by the MR3040.
