I really hope you guys get the issue sorted out quickly. I want to upgrade but there is no point in paying for better and faster internet when there is problems on the network. I'm already not getting what I'm paying for.

I'm sure we will! I know it's really frustrating :(

Thanks for testing this dude, much appreciated!
Going to see if we can get anything spotted from our end.

No worries. Needs to be fixed.

Was unable to do any streaming this past weekend.

Can't keep having issues where customers aren't getting near what they're paying for.

Absolutely agree with you! It is looking like Google stuff is the issue here, we've got our guys working on it.
Updates about the longer term stuff coming soon too :)

i see you are now threatening us with a private message that we must give our username so you can look at the account to see what is wrong or you are going to get the forum mods involved
as we have stated before you did look at our account and told us there is nothing you can do
we don't like threats and this is an open forum for people to complain about their problems
why don't you fix your network for everyone instead of just our problem so there will be no complaints
after all everyone here is paying for a premium service

Not a threat at all, but we've been constantly reaching out for the complaints you've posted but don't seem to want to have things resolved.

OK guys, so here's the latest on the long term improvements we've chatted about.
Gian has posted a thread to compile feedback - let's try and keep the feedback in the linked thread below so we can have it pass easily :)

Hey Guys.

Gian Visser, CEO of Afrihost here.

First, I sincerely apologise for the poor internet experience that I know some of you have been having on our DSL network.

I know that many of you have been unhappy with us, and I completely understand where you’re coming from. I’m hoping that by opening this thread, we can start discussing what is happening and what we're doing to fix it.

I hope that I can start rebuilding any trust that has been broken between us - I know you expect the best from us and I know that lately you haven't always received the pure internet joy we strive to give you.

Mkay, so confirmed an issue between MTN and Google somewhere. We're working with MTN to have this fixed up.

How is that possible? I was at my dad's place last night and he has an MTN connection. Play Store download speeds were just under 2MB/s on his wifi.

I think this must be like the 5th/6th massive explanation about network issues. I expected AH to create some sort of.. 'it's not us, it's our network' response. I didn't even bother reading it.

AfriGuy, if the business account is not performing like how its supposed to, and Afrihost is aware of these problems, can I please be billed against a standard uncapped account, instead of paying for a business account and getting no where near the promised performance?

So, with this in mind, can this credit be passed on to next month? Performance has generally be poor this entire month. I've had to visit this forum on a daily basis for updates.

We can't make a blanket commitment to that sort of thing here on a forum, obviously it would have far reaching implications. We do hope to have solutions in place soon so that clients will not have to endure poor performance much longer.

Our directors usually find a way to reward our clients for sticking with us through tough times one way or another. I wouldn't be suprised if they think of something like that once this is all behind us.

Morning everyone

I just want to say that I have done my best to skim through all the posts over the weekend, and I can clearly see that there was something going on. Judging from similar posting on social media and our support queries, there was definitely an issue, but we're not sure what happened.

Our reports of demand on the network and latency were showing that performance should have actually been fairly good. So there is a disconnect somewhere, and we've reported all the feedback to our technical team for them to look into what may have gone wrong.

I do see a trend of people reporting Google services not working, which is pretty concerning. Can you please let me know which services were not working, which region you are in (city is fine) and also whether you experienced this only on Business DSL or also Mobile. Hopefully we can narrow it down. Gmail worked for me, but I found YouTube pretty awful on my side.

If my post here doesn't address any specific request you made for help (which I may have missed) then please, please PM me so I can make sure I address that specifically.

Business 4Mbps (hence this thread)
Pretoria East, close to exchange, 20Mbps available...

YouTube - couldn't load it Saturday night (see previous posts), today, I can't stream it at 480p even. I used to be able to stream 720p no problem.

PlayStore - wasn't working Saturday night.

SSH, terrible experience.

Skype calls, a bit better than last week

Mybroadband, still dog slow.

EDIT: Gaming, don't get me started on that... Would you like to always walk around in knee high mud when you are just wanting to relax? Gaming on 3G is better than this BS.

We're obviously still seeing the problems in general with regard to high demand and congestion, but this weekend it looks like a Google cache node peering link is not working correctly and MTN are in the process of resolving this. I'm not sure how widely this may also affect other services, depends on their routing I guess.
