Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - Part 3

The second hop is troubling. We definitely don't like to see anything over 30ms maximum, but usually closer to 10. That additional latency compounds to really affect overall experience :(
But how (which was my original question) can I download a video at 3.1 mbps and p2p at decent 300KB/s but Google play store and YT (and pretty much most other services) dead slow?
Please I would just like to understand this.

It depends on the service. Latency affects different services in different ways. It's really hard to say that all will be affected in similar ways, but generally non-realtime downloads will be less affected that streaming, online services.

Good Morning AfriMan

How is the AH Network today and progress on AfriBlue testing and the current AH MTN Upgrades at all. Not AfriGreen :)

I don't believe we're going to be doing any further upgrades on MTN, we're moving users away to AfriGreen and eventually AfriBlue as well, so that will effectively increase available capacity on MTN, until we decide on the way forward. We are seeing some improvement, but we'll see more as we get AfriBlue online.

AfriBlue is currently still being tested internally, it's behind schedule for client testing.

Almost no movement tonight downloading Steam updates/games on both MTN and Afrigreen. What's up?

Our Team was making some changes to AfriGreen, and this would have caused some performance issues, you should see it to start to improve now.

I guess 80kb/s is better than 0! :P

Aaaand back down to 6ish

Sorry Afriguys, I'm headed out for dinner now, and I might not be back until after midnight. I've had to put a cancellation through so that I don't get stuck with this for another month. I'll absolutely reactivate my service when the wheels are back on, but for now I can't justify R1000 worth of "Unshaped uncapped 10mb" ADSL that performs at under 1% of the expected throughput.

Aaand one more.

I really hope Telkom is busy working on the exchange right this second, because I've just received a new max attainable rate on my line of 3580Kbps and a sync of 2435Kbps. Rebooting the router does nothing. Speed tests are as you would expect. The connection is disconnecting frequently.

Edit: Attainable rate has stabilised at 14Mbps now and sync is back to 10. So great 8Mbps speeds are back. SNR has marginally improved to 6.4dB though.

2nd edit: And it's back to terrible. This must mean that the torrential rain that has occurred during these rough patches is responsible. How can rain cause this?!

It (the water) touches the copper line. Electric will always follow the route of least resistance. Because the copper is charged due to the electrons flowing, water would offer less resistance and it would go along the water.

That must be it. Not long after the rain cleared up today my connection went back to working perfectly (or as perfectly as possible with things as they are atm). Seems insane that Telkom wouldn't bother waterproofing the local connection points.

They did when they installed it, but lack of maintenance means that at some points it will creep in as wear and tear sets in.

Sorry to hear you haven't been having the best experience :(
Is this on the current network or Afrigreen?

I'll agree with Johnatan56 here.
Have you tested your voice line to see if there's any noise there?

Definitely no crackling or static on the landline.

Hhmm OK. The noise may only be there when there's moisture on the copper itself.
Drop me a PM, I'll take a look at the logs and see if I can get a fault logged for you :)
