Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. If I suspend my 4Mb business uncapped bundle while the network is being sorted out, what happens to my 10Mb ADSL line?

Nothing will happen to your line, if you're using pause, not getting suspending due to not paying or something like that. The products are still essentially discreet products, though bundled discounts should not apply.

Afriman can you tell me why a business vpn has not been working on ah for the last couple of months
speeds are going down the crapper again since 8am

I couldn't say off hand, there are quite a few factors that would go into that from your connection to the stability of the server or the connection you are logging onto.

we have several people working on the same vpn but when they use an afrihost account it does not work but from any other isp it works

We'll have to troubleshoot with you on this. VPN traffic should be normal. Are you using the AfriGreen network or the regular MTN network?

Yesterday around noon I opened a support ticket and asked that the port be recreated.
Until now I have received no feedback yet.
Things are normal this morning, now I do not know if it was another problem and Afrihost support time is just very long, or if Afrihost did recreate the port and it fixed things and just did not provide feedback.

speeds in the general has taken a dive this morning and is still low
there is no packet loss but latency is high

Hard to say - getting no reply for almost 24 hours is a bit yuck though :(

Can you PM me the ticket reference?

Does Afrihost route local traffic via their international backbone or something like that?

Ping from Vodacom IP address in Cape Town to my Afrihost Business account = 300ms.
Ping from Vodacom IP address in Cape Town to my Web Africa capped account = 97ms.

Same router, different pppoe accounts.

We have Afrihost Business at the office, and latency is abysmal (> 200ms) to every local IP address I can think of. Even to my home Afrihost IP!

It shouldn't. A traceroute should show exactly what is going on there :(

Okay, I have logged into our server in the Vodacom Data Centre in Durban and done some tests.

Any ideas?

Weird - trace is definitely local here. Dunno why the ping is so high, unless the ping responds differently or it's no consistent.

Might be a peering thing. Will have to see what is happening there :(

Afriman - quick question if you know. Are there separate physical ports on a typical Telkom exchange for 4Mb and 10Mb lines? Where is the throughput governed if you have a 4Mb business account running on a 10Mb line?

It's entirely dependant on the exchange and what DSLAM cards it holds. I think it used to work that 4Mbps sync was handled by 4Mbps cards. I think it's just what's available now.
