Afrihost drops 10Mbps uncapped ADSL pricing

Haha ya I realise that was a bold statement, but as soon as Telkom bumps me to 2meg will grab a trial account as see what's what. Mweb is awesome but the bottom line is Afrihost is now MUCH cheaper.
 
Awesome, Afrihost. Sorry, though, but I'm not moving quite yet - I'll wait for the much anticipated speed upgrade and then consider my options. I don't trust those August dates quite yet. Also, I think a couple more deals are on their way once the dust settles.

wait until November after all the annoucements and upgrades are completed
 
Dammit...happy 4mb Uncapped Mweb customer...to switch or not to switch..That 10mbps is amazing but I'm still too skeptical.
 
Afrihost is starting to look more and more attractive on pretty much all their prices. Anyone from MWEB here that care to comment? I know people on Afrihost uncapped accounts, and apart from one or two intriguing observations, the MWEB "higher price = higher quality" line is starting to fly pretty low in my eyes....
 
can anyone confirm speeds of NZB'S on Afrihost?

Thinking about canceling my mweb account.
 
i just moved to afrihost yesterday. i streamed the soccer last night without any problem. will do further testing on the 4meg line and let you guys know. if you guys have any websites, streams, links or anything i can test, let me know.

will post results.
 
uncapped at R297 for 2meg speed is still too much expensive for me and my needs...
i still use less than +-15Gb per month on Afrihost, which, on the 15Gb Silver package at R190 is still cheaper... and that at full 4meg (or 10meg if Telkom will get their s*t in order)
this will only start benefitting me once i go over about 20Gb pm, and then the speed is slower, and all kinds of throttles and restrictions?


these uncapped packages still only benefit the big volume users
i guess for you big volume guys, the stuff you do with the data, the speed is no longer such a big concern?

although.... i have recently got an account with Netflix, and spending way too much time watching shows, so my usage is bound to start going up soon, and 2meg speed will do fine :)

how much did you pay for a Netflix account, if you don't mind asking?
 
yeah i think its $7 odd pm for Netflix... i do whatch Hulu sometimes as well (free version)... but on Hulu there are adverts in (like our normal TV :) ) and i find less of the stuff i like. The good stuff need to pay subscr as well. (maybe on Hulu + its better? perhaps should do a trial of + and compare)
What i quite like about Netflix is that it remembers the last shows (series) i watched, and if i go away, can continue right where i left off, so it must be logging which show and what minute in the show i stopped.

Still way better than DSTV! have laptop connected to TV, so just switch on and view on TV
Only problem is toooo much that i want to watch, too little time, less than 3-4hours per night available for TV :-(

so... maybe uncapped may soon become a better option than per Gb account

Sounds like you're on a better wicket with the capped product, because you get unshaped data as and when you want it!
 
Hulu+ > Netflix, however good luck on getting H+. Netflix would be better if they kept some of those networks they signed and stopped with the auto-dub every foreign film/series/anime.

i did use hulu before and watched some free series. the quality was actually good. i have not tried netflix yet, but will try it out sometime.
