Afrihost Fibre Feedback Thread

oh, so no shaping/no FUP is different between ADSL and fibre?

My only problem with poor (atrocious would be more accurate) experience was with AH - MONTHS of issues all blamed on Telkom/equipment/etc.
Funny thing is that when i changed my ADSL account to a different ISP all the constant problems went away!
Almost a year now that I have internet every day, no matter what time of day using the same equipment, same exchange, same usage.

And yes - ADSL is working just fine for me thanks very much - unless there is a considerable saving or they upgrade to fibre for free I will stay.

Oh! No problem. I thought you were thinking of moving to FTTH. :)

AfriGenie, I am an Afrihost fan!! I have referred many people to you guys due to incredible service levels.

In my books you are right up there with Outsurance, CAMAF and FNB premier call centre! One question though, does your R 8000 pm, 10Mbps include a free router? If not, do you know where I can find a fibre router. They are as scarce as chicken teeth!!

The Home Uncapped accounts are Throttled once you've hit the Usage Threshold we have listed HERE in a 30-day rolling window.

The Premium Uncapped accounts will only have P2P and HTTP downloads shaped when the network is at peak demand, obviously it depends on the network load at the various points of the infrastructure.

:)

Eish, so according to your doc, a 10mb Fibre line gets throttled at 120Gb?

10 Mbps: 120GB

I am used to have 200gb cap that rolled over indefinitely on Vox. 120 is a problem - does downloading from midnight to 6/7am count towards this 120gb cap or not?

Another question - I logged a ticket but no response yet. I signed up for Openserve 10mb, and if all goes well OS or Telkom will perform the install tomorrow.

Where do I get the free modem/router, from Telkom/OpenServe, or from Afrihost?

If I see this throttling at 120Gb is not going to work, can I:
1. Switch to a capped option when they become available?
2. Cancel my contract

I wouldn't sign up for this look for another provider
this is adsl treatment

There are people doing over 500gb on 20/20 uncapped services for R799pm unshaped & unthrottled!

Unfortunately I can only have either Telkom or OpenServe in my area :(

Is Telkom's Fair Use Policy better than Afrihost's?

Hi! :)

The installations include a termination point or CPE for your FTTH connection, you then just need to connect any router that has a WAN Ethernet Port to provide WIFI connectivity.

That throttling will only happen if you opt for the Home Uncapped products. The Premium Uncapped and Business Uncapped accounts arent' throttled. :)

Well, I am taking the Home Uncapped. So I will be throttled as soon as I reach 120Gb ??!!!?!?!? What false advertising to say it is UNCAPPED! :(

You also did not answer my question on whether data downloaded between midnight and 7 AM is included in the amount that ads up to 120Gb.

You also did not answer my question on whether I can move to a Capped product or opt to cancell my contract if I am not happy with the 120Gb cap.

Hmmm, with Telkom, I actually get a modem for free for the same price:

All usage is taken into account over the past 30-days for the Home Uncapped account throttling.

You will definitely be able to change your product to a different one from your ClientZone if you aren't happy with the Home Uncapped product. :)
