The pricing is largely determined by the providers, but we're definitely taking the feedback that we are receiving very seriously.

Well both of the pricing list above is on the vumatel network so the provider (Vumatel), I doubt they are charging one ISP more than another.

AfriGenie. I am still waiting for a reply from Gian to the email that I sent on Thursday. Our neighbourhood residents association (FNAG) has Octotel providing the Fibre and other ISP's are offering cheaper rates for the same or greater speeds and or quotas and with no installation charges and a free Modem. We received a cut and paste response from Nontobeko M answered specific questions by referring to your website. Is there someone in charge that can address questions for 200 potential clients ?

Thanks

We can definitely look into this for you. :)

Drop me a PM with the ticket reference number and I'll ask our FTTH Team to look into this.

The pricing is largely determined by the providers, but we're definitely taking the feedback that we are receiving very seriously.

Here's a real world example how out of kilter AH's Fibre offering is..
My current 20mbps VDSL line rental + 100GB capped bundle with AH costs me R585.
I receive 100GB + 100GB unshaped data, with unmetered use for 8hrs (now 18hrs) a day. No mess no fuss no confusion. The only fly in the ointment is the erratic Telkom VDSL connection.

I'd love to move to Fibre to get a stable connection however here's how they stack up to the R585.
R799 - for a shaped and throttled (at 200GB package). Downgrade from the current unshaped experience.
R999 - for a shaped package. Pretty near to current experience albeit that P2P and HTTP will be shaped when demand dictates.
R1199 - for an unshaped package. Price overkill
Not forgetting a setup free of apprx R1999 or R83 per month over 24mths.

So, given that there are two parts to broadband provision, connection type and data, I reckon the following.
100GB + 100GB 18hrs per day unmetered capped costs R199.
The 20mbps VDSL costs around R386.
I'm thinking that data cost on the AH Fibre Home should be in the region of R199 - basically similar use to my current package.
That means, simplistically, that the Fibre line will be costing me R600 pm.
That's not adding up.

By way of comparison - MWeb offer a 20/20mbps with 100GB and unmetered time for R449.
The thing is I've been a loyal AH customer from the get go. I'm not wanting to leave however the current AH offering is not making sense.

@AfriGenie Go check the uncapped usage thread in the Fibre section. As you can probably note from that thread that your tiers are absolutely wrong. It should be at least 3x-5x the current values. If you want to remain competitive and be a market leader you should adjust with the times. None of these old ADSL rules bs.

only on Afrihost do they prefer you on ADSL with their price, other ISP's actually cheaper than ADSL

Yeah just doing a bit of light trolling on Afrimans thread, the fibre being installed in our Estate not even provisioned on Afrihost so will go with the true uncapped guys out there wont name names but you can guess.

I wouldn't really say we are trolling. We are trying to get ISP's to up their game. This is one of the few channels where we can actually challenge their business practices, and voice opinions.

Fair enough that is true. I also hope it helps the consumer to look deeper not just accept it.

Well AfriGenie, I sent you a PM and also received no response. Do you guys not want 200 new clients ?

:(

Our initial offerings are largely determined by the pricing that our providers offered us, but we're definitely taking all of this feedback into account. We definitely want to provide a product that our Clients want to use.

I've just dropped you a PM, let's get you sorted out as quickly as possible.

Ordered Afrihost FTTH 4 weeks ago, within a week the installer came and connected to the mainline but there was no light/signal.

I have had to take time off on 3 separate days since then and each time the installer comes the mainline is dead.

All the people who come are subcontractors, the installer is excellent, I feel sorry for the guy, he only gets paid per job and each time he comes he spends hours trying to get the line active while the other contractors swear blind that the line is active.

The contractors who are responsible for the main line are dishonest, they keep telling the installer the line is active when it is not, they also told the installer that they visited my home and checked the mainline when they had not.

I suppose I could get the names of supervisors and bash heads and get the crap contractors to come while the installer is here and sort out the problem. But isn't that what Afrihost should be doing ?

Also the contractors destroyed half my garden and I had to pay R500 to get the garden they massacred removed. The contractor's supervisor seems to think that a Fibre line is like a 50,000V HT line when it comes to routing it through your garden.

Put in a ticket to Afrihost 2 weeks ago and then another this Wednesday, told them if it was not sorted out by 4pm today I would cancel the order. If there is fault on the line and it takes 4 weeks to sort out then this is not a service worth having, the ADSL line I have has had faults on it a number of times and it was always repaired within a week.

Please dont ask me for a ticket number blah blah blah, if you cannot sort a problem out through your support system and I have to come and complain on social media then this is a service not worth having.

That's not cool to hear!

I definitely want to follow-up on this for you, but I will need the latest ticket reference number at the very least.

@AfriGenie

I've just checked the Telkom coverage map and fibre is now available in our street! Stoked. But the Afrihost site is saying it's not available. Is this due to which providers are available? Would like to stay with Afrihost if possible... I'm staying in Rondebosch.

Cancelled my fibre order with Afrihost,

Going with another proivder who is offering a free router + 2 months free
subscription.

Also not the bad FUP for home fibre uncapped products.

All this for R24 more per month
