What is your MTU set to at the moment? Which provider is your Fibre through?

Hi Afrigenie,

Thanks for the quick response. The physical fibre is provided by Fibrehoods/Vumatel. You are my ISP.

Excuse my ignorance, but how do I check what my MTU settings are?

EDIT : Just found it on my router - its set to 1500

Openserve Fibre installations take around 6 to 8 weeks from it being ordered to when the installation is completed.

My neighbor got his installed three days after ordering last week.
Also, your site states up to 3 weeks.
Fibre Line Installation
Within approx. 3 Weeks

6-8 weeks is double the site's time as a minimum.

Can I not get an order number associated with it from OpenServe, so that I know it's at least in the queue?

Hi Afrihost,

I am trying to apply for a 4Mb/100GB capped fibre on-line. Below is my selection at checkout showing two monthly installments and the router (free). Why do I have two monthly amounts? When I delete the second one the router then also disappears. My ticket is NAD-545-92655 but no one has responded yet.

UPDATE: I deleted the first one and the second plus the router stayed. So ok now.

Another question, I need to give a month's notice to Telkom/Vox. Will Afrihost provide a date a month in advance so I can make the transition seamless?

That should work. Are you seeing those issues happen at specific times of the day or night?

I'm just providing the estimate based on my experience, it can be a lot quicker than that. :) In fact I really hope it is!

Once you've signed-up, we'll submit the orders to Openserve for processing.

We pretty much process the orders immediately, you may need to hold-off on ordering until they've been able to process the cancellation for you.

Thanks for the help. I've only used the connection at night and early hours of the morning so far - and thats when it happens.

I'll just keep on monitoring it for now - thanks for the assistance thus far.

Thanks! :) We'll definitely figure out what's going on!

I spoke to Sales and was advised that I will have the option to accept the activation and at the time set a date that will coincide with my cancellation of the existing ADSL. The account will only then go live and I will avoid having to pay double. This is ideal.

Ah! Okay. :) I'm glad the Team was able to help with that!

Hi Afrihost

I've tried this via a regular support ticket (KTW-127-31181), but no response 24 hours later, so here goes:

Attached are screenshots of speed tests of my local vs. international connectivity on a 10mbps capped fibre link. As you can see, international really sucks - lucky if I see 1.4mbps. This has been my typical experience on other evenings too. "Upgrading" from 8mbps DSL with Vox, to 10mbps Afrihost fibre, has been a downgrade as far as international is concerned.

Please let me know what I have to buy to get reasonable TV streaming. What do I have to pay for to get a real, say, 5mbps? Will 20mbps do it? Premium Uncapped? Priority Uncapped?

Hi guys,

I finally got my Afrhost fibre connection live yesterday.....but have a question. The speeds are as advertised.....ping is also pretty decent. Just one issue, when browsing the internet, it sometimes takes long to resolve the host and sometimes even times out. My desktop is hardwired to my router, so its not a LAN issue. Does anybody know what could be causing this?

Thanks

Hi Afri-guys,

I think I might have found the solution to my problem - it doesnt make sense, but this is what it seems to be. I normally use a static IP address on my desktop at home, with the default gateway and DNS pointing to the IP address of my router. This has worked fine for years on ADSL. Once I set my desktop to get an IP Address from the router's DHCP, the problem seems to have gone away. Web pages are loading fine now.

Like I said, I dont understand it, but that seems to have resolved the problem for me. I'll do some further tests when I can make the time.

Thanks for the support

Heya paoloc, thanks for reaching out. :) First of all, sorry about the delay in reply. Our Support Team have been dealing with some high volumes, but a huge effort is being made to improve response times. :)

As far as your international is concerned, a lot of factors including the route, server, DNS and CDN may affect your international throughput and streaming experience. Which international site are you using to stream content? Are you using a VPN or any specific DNS settings to access the content?

Hi Afrihost,

Just my experience in contacting Afrihost Sales. I phone and select Sales. The voice tells me there is a high volume and there will be a delay etc etc. It then says I am 2nd in queue. Next, the same high volume message replays and then it tells me I am 39th in the queue and it will take 20 min. It then proceeds to count down. Why the first incorrect queue position?

I have also tried on-line chat but on every occasion it has said no one is available and gives me the option of emailing. No option to wait for someone to become available. This feature should be offered.

Hi. I know that there are many such factors - which is why I avoided that, and gave you a simple Speedtest.net figure. If you can make that number go up, I will be happy. I get mediocre speeds, consistently, at night (I haven't compared in daytime), to any Speedtest.net destination I've randomly chosen across several days, in New York (and similarly poor speeds to Speedtest.net destinations I've randomly chosen in London).

This way we don't have to speculate about CDNs etc. You can show me a similar chart for what I should be getting, based on your own tests. Or better yet, ask one of your network people what I asked before: which package will give me, say, 5mbps downstream from a typical NY endpoint.

Hey there Quixotic. Sorry to hear about your poor experience. I'm sorry to hear that you were shuffled around the queue. This can sometimes happen as a result of calls being transferred and team logging in and out. If you have any sales related questions and you would like to skip the queue, feel free to drop me a PM. :)

That's something we won't be able to guarantee... :( I would suggest that you go with as high a profile as you are comfortable paying for. :)

How long does a line speed upgrade request take on Vumatel? Vumatel, when called, says it can happen immediately when they are prompted by the ISP. I asked for a line upgrade on the afternoon of 9 October, with the ClientZone portal noting it will occur midnight of the same day. An AH Support-chat agent said 48-72 hours. Today is 13 October, 95-hours after submitting the request and Vumatel notes there is no indication from AH to process the upgrade yet...

Ah... that is really not cool at all. :( I'll indefinably need to take a look at your profile to see what is going on.

If you could please drop me a PM with your account info and I'll check this out for you! :)

Morning Afripeeps

Having the same issue where a line and package upgrade is not going through. Requested it last week and can see it says pending package change with no upgrade happening.
