Afrihost Fibre Feedback

Frogfoot completed the fibre installation yesterday, but ClientZone still says the order is in progress.

Talking to the Afrihost support to get the status updated and credentials, and they keep asking me if the line has been installed yet? This after I've told them multiple times that the fibre is connected and live.

talk about incompetence...

:( That's not good to hear!

Can you please Inbox me your details and I'll check what's going on.

nevermind, I simply plugged the router in and boom! Fibre was activated instantly, no setup was required.

if only support had told me so, then there wouldn't have been any confusion. :)

just having an issue with port forwarding for one of my applications... anyone know if that D-Link router is doing anything on port 8989?

I am glad you are online!

From what I can see the D-Link doesn't seem to be running anything on port 8989.

Ah yes, finally figured out that this app doesn't like both TCP & UDP enabled, so it worked once I removed the UDP port forward.

Thanks for sharing! I'll keep that in mind! :)

Hi AfriPeeps,
The DNS problem from earlier this morning still persists on my line. Google DNS (8.8.8.8) works perfectly. The auto sourced DNS from AH is not working. Getting DNS failures on everything incl. AH sites.
I called the support line earlier this morning. They acknowledged and logged it but I've not seen any notification of a support ticket so can't follow up. Please assist.

Today openserve came to install Fibre. ONT box is in and lights are on. Now I believe I must contact Afrihost to activate the account? Will do it in the morning.

Is the router set up straight forward? Could someone advise what to do?

Is there a way to cancel my telephone line and adsl line with telkom?

so far I'm not impressed with the download speeds on Premium Fibre - stuff was coming down faster on my 20Mbps Uncapped...

cannot fault the speeds on streaming though, YouTube is just cruising without any delays

Can barely get 600Kb/s on a 20Meg home fibre account at the moment from international downloads. 10GB used currently. Seems I need to
claim the double your money back guarantee.

Plug a laptop/PC/router into LAN port 1 of the CPE. Wait until it issues an IP. Go here: https://clientzone.afrihost.com/fibre-activate

Having the same problem. On the exact same account and am being aggressively shaped for days now.

Hmmm... the AfriPeeps are unusually quiet. Would appreciate help on this.

From my side, seems DNS is has nothing to do with the issue....

I changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 but my international downloads are failing.
I tried to download dropbox (installer) and the Atom IDE from Github, both time out.

Local is relatively ok though and I'm getting 50%-100% of max speed on ISO download from mirror.ac.za

Something not lekka with international

I noticed this on wifi, sometimes the ping is up to 300ms, and my speeds no more than 0.3mbps down and 0.6mbps down. I think this is an issue with the wifi component of the D-Link router though, because I don't have this issue with any device connected with copper.

Hmmm...interesting theory....will test it tonight...

But....if it was Wifi, why would international vs local matter?

Afrihost Fibre on Openserve

I have signed up for Afrihost Fibre almost three months back. It has been installed and activated for almost a month now, and Afrihost still cannot supply me with access details for my account (Will supply Line Number in PM). The past two weeks Ive spent over R300 in call charges listening to Suzie telling me that Im now caller 30+ in line only to be cut off if the call number gets blow 5.

There is simply no reply to tickets being logged. I am in a desperate situation here, I need my Fibre connected asap.

I think Afrihost is going under and only have two people attending to support questions. I would like to be proven wrong.

PS: Telkom today again conformed that the line is available and no sessions are active...

I thought the same - these tests were on LAN (100Mb). I also thought the QoS on the router was messing about. I plugged the PC directly into the CPE and it actually tested worse.

This morning it all flew and is still flying.
