Afrihost Fibre Feedback

I have signed up for Afrihost Fibre almost three months back. It has been installed and activated for almost a month now, and Afrihost still cannot supply me with access details for my account (Will supply Line Number in PM). The past two weeks Ive spent over R300 in call charges listening to Suzie telling me that Im now caller 30+ in line only to be cut off if the call number gets blow 5.

There is simply no reply to tickets being logged. I am in a desperate situation here, I need my Fibre connected asap.

I think Afrihost is going under and only have two people attending to support questions. I would like to be proven wrong.

PS: Telkom today again conformed that the line is available and no sessions are active...

Try using a competitor's ISP account while you wait for Afrihost to sort it out and pass on the bill/get Afrihost's bill negated for the data portion.
I think Axxess and Vox both have about the same price per GB.

Sad to say I had exactly the same experience recently. Seems like their support staff is way too small.

Almost like the ANC, over-promise, under-deliver....

I noticed this on wifi, sometimes the ping is up to 300ms, and my speeds no more than 0.3mbps down and 0.6mbps down. I think this is an issue with the wifi component of the D-Link router though, because I don't have this issue with any device connected with copper.

I thought so as well at first, but I am playing World of Warships on both my laptop over Wifi, and also on the home PC wired. Both have the same lag issue, so it's not the WiFi.

It is definitely the shaping on the fibre!

I don't mind torrents being shaped during daytime, but to shape gaming traffic is SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!

@AfriGenie please can you have your network team investigate the shaping on gaming traffic?

Just a general message, as I think most of the posts before yesterday were due to some network issues.

We were aware that there were problems with our IP ranges in the South, they presented similar to DNS issues, but our DNS was actually fine. I don't have the full technical explanation, but we did have an issue on our side.

This was resolved yesterday, but otherwise please PM me if you had an issue that hasn't come right :)

We haven't been doing any shaping on fibre to my knowledge, as we upraded massively in anticipation of our fibre launch. Until we see a huge increase in demand, that should remain the case.

Shaping would also follow the same rules as DSL, as we use the same backbone and shaping devices, so there wouldn't be any difference i.e. gaming traffic should not be shaped on our network.

What are you basic tests looking like?

We definitely have a lot of people attending to queries, we're just seeing a lot more queries of late than we've seen before and we're a few people shorter than usual.

Do you have the ticket reference so I can escalate this our support manager?

I thought the same - these tests were on LAN (100Mb). I also thought the QoS on the router was messing about. I plugged the PC directly into the CPE and it actually tested worse.

This morning it all flew and is still flying.

Then we don't have the same issues

I noticed some sites were incredibly slow, but it resolved a bit later.

Basic tests are fine: ping is in the 15-30ms range, D/U:45-48Mbps

- YouTube is cruising, web surfing is lightning fast.
- DSTV Catchup is downloading 2Gb episodes in 3-5 min.
- Torrents are very slow during the day (not an issue as they are scheduled for overnight).

It's just WoW which is impossible to play due to the heavy lag...

We can definitely check on our side. When are you planning to play next? Just drop me your username so we can check your traffic on our side :(

Morning Afripeeps

First off a big thank you for the assistance in last week to get my fibre line installed. I would like to know is the double data valid for afrihost plus on fibre capped packages? So if I take a 200GB capped package will it double up to 400GB with afrihost plus on fibre. Secondly I read the last threads is the 12 to 8 free time valid for fibre and working as intended?

Thanks so much

International:

I just tested now and the lag is down to +-170ms, so it looks like the issue has been resolved for now.

Thanks for the update! :)

If there is any change, please let me know!

You are right on both counts! :D

You are able to add your Plus+ Double Data benefit to your Capped Fibre account.

And the 00h00 to 08h00 After-Hours data is definitely working on Capped Fibre as well! :)

How long is the turn-around time between placing an order and getting the Afrihost e-mail stating that it has been received to OpenServe contacting one for install?

Hi guys,

I finally got my Afrhost fibre connection live yesterday.....but have a question. The speeds are as advertised.....ping is also pretty decent. Just one issue, when browsing the internet, it sometimes takes long to resolve the host and sometimes even times out. My desktop is hardwired to my router, so its not a LAN issue. Does anybody know what could be causing this?

Thanks

What is your MTU set to at the moment? Which provider is your Fibre through?

Openserve Fibre installations take around 6 to 8 weeks from it being ordered to when the installation is completed.
