Afrihost Mobile Delivery Feedback Thread

Received mine today. Tested at the office and worked great. No coverage at home though :(

Do you live in a odd place out of town? Or is it just MTN that has spotty coverage?

Where I spend most of my time, MTN's 3G coverage is somewhere between borderline and non-existing.

Nope I should have decent coverage where I am. I have decent coverage even on CellC. Never been on Mtn before so not really sure.

I don't know, everyone keeps going on about how great MTN's network is, but it's just not the case in my experience. Cell C's data network is currently faster where I spend most of my time, and coverage is much better.

MTN got spots where they are better, same with Vodacom, CellC, Telkom etc - one cannot expect all of them to be uber super great all over the place.

Got a call last week asking if delivery would be possible for Sat 31/08
Handed to Courier 30-08-2013 15:55:36
Courier Depot 09-09-2013 07:09:10

It is now the 12th, still nothing received.
Thanks for all the extra bandwidth, which I can't use, because I still don't have my device.

Signal is dependant on coverage but also on demand for MTN data in the area at that specific time. It's difficult to know what the theoretical max is unless everyone disconnected at the same time, and only you connected :)

I get good speeds +- 9mb down and 3mb up but my ping can jump from 30ms to 300ms+ which kinda sucks. Wanted to ditch 8ta but at home with 8ta my ping is always below 50ms which is nice for casual online gaming...

Hi Afriman,

Got my device an hour ago. Much smaller and more portable than I thought. Is there a way to force 3G only?

Pings fluctuate are demand fluctuates. It also depends on your signal strength at the location you're at. How quickly does it fluctuate and is this in a single location?
