Afrihost Mobile Delivery Feedback Thread

My excitement for the Afrihost mobile data service cannot be explained, if you guys feel like making me a Beta tester i could provide 'valuable' and in depth testing of both the device and the network service......... Just saying :)

Duly noted ;)

Payment still doesnt reflect in my clientzone although it has gone off.

Why are some people so lucky to be beta testers ?

The beta testers were chosen from our Twitter competitions, press and media, and then random Social Media peeps we interact with. Definitely no favouritism on our part :)

Mine will be in my hands on Monday .I did a normal MTN speed test @home just to see what speeds i get http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/i/617645252

Nice. Now we know what we're up against. We've had some reports of around 18Mbps!!!! - that may have been from directly on top a Cell Tower wearing a tinfoil body suit. Still, better than a kick in the ghoulies ;)

Today Somerset West and Gordons Bay testing.
Used 400mb yesterday yoh

Yesterday (at home) all was well with the mifi device.

This morning, no throughput :(

Will try again later and see if it improved...

surely the devices can be delivered 'slightly' ahead of schedule? In an attempt to assist research currently taking place?

Its already packed and handed off, all thats really left is for the courier company to do their jobs.... its a win win for everyone really

Where exactly are you? Is is consistently slow or just in the place you are in right now?

Normal MTN connection. Jumps up and down, In Beacon Bay at the moment, but no better in EL central either. Hopefully when I get the little MIFI it will perform better.

Really looking forward to this. This is what I get on MTN from my place in Milnerton. Hope it is close to this good!

EDGE speeds here

Put the SIM into an Huawei E1820... it alternates between EDGE and HSPA... (and sometimes nudges over into WCDMA)...

Seems the signal strength here is just on the edge... not strong enough.

It works, but speeds aren't good...

Anyone done any tests with the modem regarding orientation for best signal/speed?

Still battling here.

Mifi router orientation : sometimes it works better in a vertical position, other times it works better when flat...

There goes my dream of having a constant internet connection during my travels

Still better than my Mweb ADSL but maybe you can do with an antennae booster.

Testing on Cell-C I get the above. This is with the on/off switch side facing the tower.

With the on/off switch side on the opposite side I get about 3.3 mbs.

I hope MTN can beat that :)

So couriers say I can fetch my device and sim. From when can I use it if I go fetch it?

Or must I wait till Monday for them to deliver?
