No change on my side yet, rebooted countless times and getting different IP addresses (airmobile and afrihost) but doesn't seem to make a difference, still stuck below 10Mbps.
Hopefully fixed tomorrow morning, can only hope.![]()

Thanks for the update. I can understand how frustrating this is on both you guys as well as customers. However, we really do appreciate the transparency from Afrigirl and yourself. I just tested now and my speed has increased as well, from around 4Mbp to about 30 to 60 Mbp. Thanks so much!Morning
I want to start by apologising and I know that doesn't mean much because the service is still degraded but I really mean that.
I want to provide more details about the issue at hand and be as open and transparent as possible.
Yes the issue experienced is some sort of enforcement but it's not from our side. We have removed all enforcements on Fixed LTE to make sure this issue is not on our side and clients with uncapped data on the afrihost apn also confirmed this saying they are not being throttled after reaching the fair use policy limits. We did this as part of our troubleshooting.
The only APN currently affected is ws.afrihost.fwa
We are in constant communication with MTN and their vendor, Ericsson, to find the root cause, as it's still unknown at this point. Other APNs we have under our brand are Afrihost, ws.air.mvo, and all the Axxess APNs. None of them are affected, yet they go through the same cross-connects, use the same switches, and use the same IP handset pools.
If our suspicions are correct then at midnight today the speeds will return to normal. If that is the case we have considered deploying more APNs to share the traffic load to prevent this issue from occurring again.
We are working on this and I apologise for the silence as proper feedback on the root cause and a permanent solution are not yet available.
Yeah its a bandwidth profile, we had it with one person last year that it kept on block their router even though it was the router supplied by Afrihost 5G oneView attachment 1792489
After leaving router off for 5 min its was fine.
Now tested again its broken again

I talked to soon as well![]()
Thanks for your feedback, sometimes it feels like you are going crazy. That said I dumped Afrihost LTE for fibre not from them and they will never see me as a client again unless I have no other avenues. The incompetence and lack of taking responsibility are staggering. I had to deal with them for over 24 months and it was positively the worst relationship I had with an ISP since 1992. Hopefully, Starlink will be an option soon, and ideally, I will have left these shores by then. Hopeless companies, hopeless infrastructure. A surefire way to get ZA back into the dark ages, sadly. In short, if you are in the Gauteng area the best option is Vox Telecom, outside of the metros good luck, every choice is a shot in the dark as no formal workable relationships exist between the resellers and the first and second-tier providers other than hands in the air.I think Afrihost have some form of relationship with MTN, through their "Air Mobile" network they setup to provision MTN SIMs (for both mobile & fixed LTE - don't know about the 5G).
Unlike Telkom LTE, whereby my understanding is that's 100% as you describe - they literally resell Telkom SIMs which don't touch their Air Mobile network.
Obviously they'd need to confirm all the above.
[I agree with you that they don't care (for the customer) if it works or not.
Going back about 4 to 5 years, I used MTN fixed through Afrihost and it was perfect for a time (45 Mbps down & up), but when I started experiencing regular, daily disconnects, there was no solution provided after I filled in an MTN questionnaire, so after 2 (more) weeks, I cancelled the service.]
Hi.4 down
3.8 up
how awesome
Time to go shopping
Why does my MTN LTE often get blocked for being in the incorrect location? (Couple times a month maybe?).
"
Please move your LTE device to an approved location
Your Pure LTE (MTN) SIM card has been blocked, because you’re using your SIM and device at an incorrect location.
Your LTE SIM and device are locked to the location you specified during sign up to ensure that you get the best quality and speed.
"
My router is always placed on the same table, it's never moved. It's wired up to ethernet, so even if I wanted to move it around, I wouldn't be able to.
I've explained all this to Afrihost support when they send me the emails and I have to reply to get it unblocked. The last time (18 Jan 2025) I got this "Please note that I have requested the unsuspension, and I will follow up on why the SIM keeps suspending while at the correct device and also at the correct location." of course I never expected nor got the follow up stated.
Also, why does it sometimes require an email to Afrihost and other times it just works again after a reboot? (and sometimes the symptoms are the same - red no internet light, but i don't get an email saying it's blocked but the reboot also fixes it).

#CCJ-655-38877Hi.
May I please have your reference number?
Thank you.#CCJ-655-38877
That's from 18 January 2025 emails.
Hi.@Afrigirl & @AfriNatic
With your pure fixed lte MTN, you offer the TP-Link MR600 at a discount price.
Is this MR600 router locked to any network or sim, ...or can I insert any ISP sim for testing purposes?
