Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

4mbps line unfortunately. :)

Edit: I apologise if somewhere I mistakenly typed 40mbps.

EDIT 2: To clarify - I used to pay R699 for 400gb unshaped capped on a 4 mbps line. This inculded the dsl line rental. Now gotta pay R998 to get the equivalent on the new packages etc.

EDIT 3: Something isn't right somewhere.

To add to the confusion, I have always maintained at least 3 ISP's at any given time for redundancy.

In the 14 years that I have had ADSl telkom has increased my Cap by two Orders of magnitude and increased my line speed to over 10Mbs and during that time the price has come down, this supposedly Shaped accout still regularly finds more seeds and peers than Vox or Afrihost Unshaped.

Vox has, with no fanfare, have increased my Cap by 400% at the same price on an Unshaped account.

As a bonus both of the above are capable of streaming HD in the evenings in Cape Town.

Afrihost have been Flaunting Dubble Data,, and the right to cancel it, as well as free time as a limited offer.
All to great fanfare and self congratulations whist still not providing an acceptable afterhours service to Cape Town.
Now have made the unshaped accounts shaped with the option to reduced the Cap by 50% and increase the cost to stay on unshaped.

That is what is not right.
playtime is over, lets now milk the herd.

Sign up for a new package :)

Is that Shaped or Unshaped though?
I wish you luck trying to use Shaped data in Cape Town after 6PM.
The only part of that package worth paying for is the Free data from Midnight to 6PM.
Cape Town is effectively switched off after that.

Where are the AfriReps? My streaming is seriously terrible. Speed tests are fine, other services are fine but video streaming is down the tubes.

Capped Account,
Durban.

Is there a reason none of the MyBroadband Afrihost reps are replying to my messages? This capped and priority boosted issue has caused me problems :(

Cancellation submitted. AH will still manage my line for now. AH - please can you confirm that the cancellation was successful and that I will NOT be billed the end of December (for January) for the data account but only for the dsl line rental? Also it said my account will be active until 31 January. Why is that? Let me know if you need any more info.

Okay AfriMystery is on.. whats up guys, whats your problem? :D

on a serious note, who is on, Genie, AfriFanatic :D Fella or Man. I have to send my now legendary AfriPM to one of you.

You can always drop me a PM. ;)

This can't be right. Mine is still the same amount. But I have a 150Gb cap with 40Mb DSL line for which I pay R764.00.

With AH+ I get 150+150. With Double Data I got even more, i.e. 600Gb.

You were paying less for more?

Which part you reckon can't be right?

Which streaming service are you having trouble with? Are you using our DNS at the moment?

I can confirm your cancellation. You will still have access to your Roll-over Data until the 31st of January, that's why you are seeing that your account will be active until the 31st.

There won't be any additional charges.

Aaaannd, I'm out. Cheers Afrihost, Jan 2017 will be weird without you

Shaping on Capped Data

You can choose to stay Unshaped at all times, Guaranteed, and continue to receive your normal, non doubled‑up data allocation – which going forward we will be calling "Priority‑Boosted" bandwidth.

Or, you can make the Double‑Data permanent, and going forward possibly be subject to shaping when the network is under extreme strain.

To put things in perspective, Capped Data will be the last product in the queue for potential shaping. Meaning we first apply shaping to Home Uncapped Packages, then if necessary Premium Uncapped, thereafter Priority Uncapped, and as a last resort Capped Data. Thus, the likelihood of Capped Data being shaped is extremely low.

So the only amount that will be paid over to you guys is the R279 per month for dsl line rental?

If it is "Unshaped" then how can it be "Priority‑Boosted", reducing or increasing priority is by its very nature a form of "Shaping".
