Hi,

Are there any issues in CPT tonight? Throughput is slow and latency is high.

See below.

EDIT: It seems to have self-corrected for now... will keep monitoring.

Glad to hear it resolved itself. :) Please feel free to gooi in a traceroute test the next time you experience any issues. Would love to see where that latency was coming from.

Same here, ever since this new "Shaped capped" started that would apparently not shape unless extreme network congestion and even then would not shape realtime services such as streaming has come into effect it's a nightly gamble on when it's going to start playing up and start to buffer...last month I could stream 1080p from the moment I pushed play, now I have to let 720p buffer for a while and even then it's got issues throughout whatever I am watching. Always said I would stick with you guys to see what's the worse that could happen but seems it's time to jump ship already in this 1st month of "Shaped capped"

Yeah speedtest is showing fine, but youtube will barely do over 1Mb/s atm.

Shaping should definitely not affect realtime services... What DNS settings are you using?

Hey, I did a few traces last night, see attached:

DeatheCore; It's probably the "latency" on your exchange. :D
Couple of my friends have been told the same thing by Afrihost - that's the new excuse from them.

Thanks. :) Will definitely pass this onto our NOC Team. Can you confirm the DNS settings you were using?

It's set to Auto - 169.1.1.3 and 169.1.1.9

Haha, luckily I included a ping to the exchange which was sitting at 11ms the entire time :D

Thanks for your input, medicnick83. :) These tests do not show latency at the exchange

Thanks for confirming. :) I just heard back from our NOC Team who confirmed a small issue with the Google Cache on our Network in the south last night. I don't have any exact details yet, but they did confirm that the issue was resolved late last night. This explains the latency bump that some users experienced. Things should be back to normal now, but keep us posted with feedback.

Im on a so called "Unshaped capped account" but i call BS
For the last few evenings doing online gaming my latency is over 500ms where its normally around 200ms
Log onto one of my backup accounts, everything is fine. Log back to my afrihost account 500ms
I'm done with your lies, i keep coming back to afrihost hoping it will be better but I end up leaving feeling the same every time

Profit margins over all else ey Afrihost???

Auto DNS, going to be monitoring tonight as I see you posted there was an issue (even though google cache shouldn't be related to my issue)

Downgrades will only take effect at the end of the month. To correct Iceman, these have to be requested before the 23rd of each month in order for it to take effect at the end of the same month. :)

well yeh somewhere around the 24th lol :D

Shaping would be causing latency on your gaming... There could be a routing issue. Which games are you having problems with?

Did you run a traceroute at all? It'll help us a lot to find out where the latency is coming from.

I think it was a port issue, Telkom did some fiddling and it seems to be fine now.

Which streaming service were you having issues with last night? It's possible that, that service was using the affected cache.

Out if curiosity, when you get hired by AH do you have to sign a NDA or a CA?

Apart from my employment contract, I haven't signed a dedicated NDA or CA, at least that I'm aware of. Why do you ask? :)
