Managed to get hold of Afrihost support on the Whatsapp line. They ran a session auditor to refresh the connection. All sorted. At least got to watch the rugby properly

What was wrong? Did they say?

My side still flying :)

Thanks - doing financial management now. I think learning Russian would have been easier.

As someone who has had accounting at varsity level, and learned some introductory russian. нет.

The worst part of learning russian, for me, was not the new characters or the words. It's the freaking characters that looks like our alphabet, but is pronounced completely different.

Glad it was resolved. Could be load shedding related - there are so many links in the chain between the provider's point of presence and the peering point - any link in the chain going into power reserve mode could possibly have an effect.

Running the session auditor just re-establishes the link so that everything is refreshed.

LOL - well you are certainly more patient than me! Maybe when I'm done with this degree I'll learn some русский

@AfriMan Any update on the international routing?

I've sent everything through to our network manager ( a while back). I think for now they believe performance is predominantly within acceptable range (for most services), and they are trying to find ways to optimise that with the current routing.

I imagine that if we can't get the latency close to what we'd like to see, then we'll have to consider alternatives.

There are many players and partners involved, so it is a pretty long process.

Imo it really isn't acceptable for gaming. 190-200ms when i could be getting <=160ms to the same servers otherwise is a big difference. Its not just the routing to a select few servers either, a majority of the servers i'm seeing have routing that is not great.

my 100/100 fibre line, on an almost daily basis now... #fml

I'm on Whatsapp with them right now, and they asked me to plug my laptop directly into the ONT.

I did that, and as soon as the line gets a new activation, the speeds are 100/100:

Also, when I first got fibre in Oct 2017, the latency used to be around 3-4ms, but now it's in the low 20s as you can see.

That's unfortunate. As I mentioned a few pages ago, a VPN is mandatory with AH to get back to sub 160ms if you are a gamer.

Ive logged a ticket: UZL-830-98329

This seems to be an issue on the Openserve network, rather than Afrihost. Although I cannot confirm as I don't have another ISP account to test with. Please can you have a look at it and possible escalate to your Openserve account manager?

You are testing to JHB servers from CPT. 20ms is not bad. Rather try Cape Town servers.

This might actually be a deal breaker for me especially after I saw the 168ms to Amsterdam with a VPN. I also really like the direct China route Afrihost has. I won't want to change but uhm yeah playing games over a VPN is not ideal unless it's like WTFast but yeah it's and extra expense.

I'm paying for a 100gb vox adsl capped account for R79 p\m to play apex legends. I can't really justify switching ISPs just yet because it would cost me more to do so.

I have a Vox account but latency to London is HORRIBLE am I missing something?

Ohh you are in CPT.
