Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread

I decided to open task manager while I did a speed test and I noticed that in task manager my ethernet adapter gets to 950mb/s and says 100%(goes red) that's when the speed stops going up on the speednet.net test.

I looks to me that I would only get better speedtest results if my router and ethernet adapter could do better than 1gbs.

In other words thanks for the great service @AfriNatic .

Yes so with the 1Gbps there are a number of bottlenecks. Vumatel has a 10% extra on the line speed to accommodate for the tcp overhead on the line. With 1Gbps there is a number of port speed limitations like the 1Gbps port speed limitation on the actual ONT, the WAN port of the router, Router CPU and LAN ports and obviously the computer port speed limit.

Even if you had a 10Gbps network card it would likely not improve the speed as the ONT port speed will be the bottleneck then.

So newbie to mybb but long time customer of Afrihost. I am about to do the switch from ADSL to fibre.
Octotel is the FNO but the packages they have with Afrihost are not exactly great.
Where to from here?

What is your current adsl speed? The cheapest package seems to be similarly priced to dsl products.

15/15 should be be fine for streaming and online gaming.

Good morning. My speed was upgraded from 100 / 50 to 200 / 100.
Download stayed at 100 and upload now also 100?

Make sure your router can do 200/100. I had to order a router because mine isn't a gigabit router. Should arrive Monday. @AfriNatic might be able to assist if you still have credit left over with the pure fibre deal.

Opened ticket at Afrihost. Answered in 10 min (on Sat morning nogal!). Fixed.
Thank you.

Helped out a friend with Covid by getting an LTE service for his shop.

For the last 6 weeks I have been trying to transfer the service to him

There is a "Transfer away" link on the website. This does not work

GeorgeM said I should go for a MTN account in order to get an account going for this fellow
Got a MTN SIM and filled in the form

Then I get this.... No-one knows what to do and just ignore requests. Sent a bank acc confirmation to "[email protected]" on 16th September. No reply

Btw - this was done on a Windows computer. I was told to use Chrome, or Safari, Edge. 3 of us tried on different
computers with c/card and debit card details

Anyone else experience fibre outage since 21h05? Fibre still down. AH support logged a call with Vumatel in my area, Sontraal Heights, Durbanville

Morning,

Looks like the outage is still ongoing. The NOC team has added a notice to that affect. Sorry for the downtime.

Good morning

I am moving to my new house tomorrow and it already has fibre installed. I ordered with Afri for my service. Do you perhaps know what the downtime will be or can I simply connect my router to the ONT?

I work from home so internet is critical.

TIA

Edit: Nevermind it's active again

If you are using it on a service that uses DHCP then you need to visit login.afrihost.com again to link it to the new service. ;)

Good morning,

I think I will post a long message as a general notice because what you are experiencing everyone will that takes up the free upgrades.

So as some of you have noticed we are offering the free double speed promo to existing Openserve clients in their clientzone. This promo is an Afrihost promo and it's something we offer to say thank you for using us as your ISP. This means that Openserve and other ISPs won't know about this promo as its an in house offer offered by us.

Because of this. There were some changes we had to make to make sure things run smoothly. The first change is we need to place line upgrade orders with Openserve as they aren't giving us the upgrades for free. Secondly we need you to be on the upgraded package on our side to make sure you get the speeds of the upgraded package.

Our system is designed in such a way that is bills x amount for that speed. This means we need to apply a price override. As you know invoices are generated for the following month on the 22nd of each month. If you apply for the free upgrade or even a paid upgrade after the 22nd it means the invoice we sent you is not longer valid. The system will credit that invoice and generate a new one and call it "Change processor"

In some cases clients might think they are getting billed 2 times but the old invoice has been credited already so that is not going to happen. The new Invoice will have the full price of the upgraded package but it will also show a discount.

The get the full picture of the account you can pull an account history in clientzone to see exactly what is happening.

Second issue relating to speed. We apply policies to each account to make sure they don't get abused. If you have a 10Mbps line we limit the account to 10Mbps. This is to prevent people from buying a 10Mbps fibre service and using it on a second line or maybe a 200Mbps.

When an upgrade is submitted the policy gets moved to the upgraded speed. This happens once a day for all fibre clients to make sure they are on the correct policy. If your upgrade completed during the day then the speeds will be as they should by midnight that day or you can send me a pm @AfriNatic to speed it up for you.

Very long post but I hope that clarifies some of the process. :)
So what about the rest of us? Are we not nice Afrihost clients to get free upgrades lol

Unfortunately Vuma Reach will not qualify because of the way the payment and system works for that services. Other providers will be soon.
